DEAR ABBY
Did you see the two recent Dear Abby columns about coupons? They were about the coupons that ‘coupon fairies’ leave on merchandise for other customers to use. A manager wrote in to say that stores don’t like them because people might slip and fall after stepping on a coupon that ends up on the floor that the ‘coupon fairies’ leave.
Do you know anyone or have you ever slipped on a little coupon? The store is afraid of being sued for it. After slipping on a coupon I would be jonesing about it, but I don’t think I could tell anyone. “Hello 911, I just slipped on a coupon and I can’t get up!” But if I did I could just see what I would do. I’d drag myself over to the customer service desk by using my arms to slug myself over to it. I’d knock on the newstand which always seems to be by the customer service desk. Hello, anyone there? The worker would peek over the desk and ask what was the matter. “I’ve been injured”, I’d say. What from? “I slipped on a coupon left by one of those coupon fairies.” “I didn’t see it and slipped on it and I flew up in the air like one of those Little Rascal clips.” “I landed on my keister and here I am to sue the pants off the store.”
All the while I’d be groaning like a cat in heat and rubbing my legs to show where my boo boos were at. The more dramatic I make it the more the store will cater to my every whim. “Hey, I will sue the store unless you meet my demands!” I will extoll. “First, I’m taking some of these fine magazines and newspapers on your news rack.” “Two of each!” “And give me a package of Velamints and some of those $10 scratch off lottery tickets that I would never get with my own money.” They would toss the items to me as I’m still on the floor writhing in pain.
Nevermind the onlookers pointing at me and gawking. My pride isn’t wounded when I know I’m getting compensation for my injury. I’d have to think of some other stuff I would want. I’d pipe in, “And send someone to the beef section for some sirloin tips!” “I’m making stew tonight.” Not that they would have to know that, but I’m not well so I say things that don’t make sense.
All this I would now have to thank Dear Abby for. Before I would never think to sue, but now that this manager pointed it out I’m making a beeline for every coupon I see on the floor, and use it like a skateboard until I crash. Coupon fairies rock!

The TV show Bones had a show that had an Extreme Couponer killed by a manager of a store because the manager got mad at her for her extreme couponing. I know some people get annoyed with couponers, but you’d think they might stop at wanting to murder the person. A blow to the head with a box of Cheerios ought to suffice and quell the rage he had without killing her. Some humans just need more patience. We are just trying to save a buck within the limits of the rules. I might have to pack some heat to ward off any of these high strung managers. Maybe they just need to grab a case of beer and chill out in their office.
