Because auto traffic is down around 50%, most insurance companies have instituted one-time credits or refunds to policyholders on their auto insurance.
If you haven’t shopped around your auto insurance for awhile, I recommend getting some equivalent quotes from other providers to see if they can save you more than you current policy.
Here is a list of the credits, refunds, etc. that are being provided to current policyholders:

AAA: 20% refund between for policyholders with insurance in effect from March 16 to May 15

I stopped up at the Mentor Schwebels Bread Outlet. They had the Schwebel’s Select bread loaves on sale for $1. EARTH DAY

CURBSIDE PICKUP ONLY
Giant Eagle added a second store for curbside-pickup delivery only. They converted a store in Cuyahoga Falls to a curbside-pickup-delivery-only center and transitioned a second store this past week in Garfield Heights. I’m sure it will be used to see how it affects business and to push customers into using the service in the future after everything changes back to normal. It’s been so popular that many stores don’t have open slots for days.

15 MONEY SAVING TIPS
Times are tough. Many people are losing their jobs whether it be temporarily or permanently. Some are having their pay cut. Job prospects are tough for those that need to find a new job in their field. Now is the time to hunker down financially in these uncertain times, if you haven’t already.
First, are you doing everything you can to save money? Here is a checklist of various ways to save money now:
1) Only buy items on sale at 50% off or more. No exceptions. Look for BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) deals as they also equate to 50% off each item.
2) Use coupons at every opportunity. Find them on a store’s web-site or in the Sunday newspapers (or the Saturday/Sunday edition that includes ads and coupons) that include the Smart Source and RetailMeNot coupon inserts. Load electronic coupons at every store you shop.
3) At each store you shop, enroll into their rewards program.
4) Cut back on unnecessary items. I’m not talking one coffee at Starbucks. I’m talking other vices. Alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, pay-per view movies, clothes (unless you are naked amd Charlie Brown wears the same outfit every day after all), and other items that can be weaned from your budget (nobody said this would be fun or easy).
5) I mentioned enrolling into rewards programs in #3 – include where you buy gas. Most all gas stations have rewards programs that earn you discounts.
6) Look into refinancing your home at a lower rate at less years using no closing costs. Most banks offer no closing cost loans. They charge a slightly higher interest rate to cover the cost.
7) Call each place that sends you a bill and see if they have a better deal they can put you into or lower the cost of what they are charging. That includes cable (or switch to their basic plan or switch to streaming video), internet, newspapers, water, phone (also shop different plans at myrateplan.com), medical, etc.
8) Stop buying online from the same places you usually shop and instead, price shop. Amazon isn’t cheap, so shop around if you need to buy a necessary item, including local stores.
9) Cash in any rewards you have accumulated on your credit card. Don’t get rewards on your credit card? Get credit cards that do without an annual fee.
10) Check https://unclaimed.org/ to see if you are owed money by the state. For Ohio it will show whether you are owed under $100 or over $100.
11) Don’t eat more than what your body needs to save money on food and to avoid expensive health issues.

13) Shop around your insurance – car, home, and any other type of insurance you have.
14) Stop buying from vending machines. Cans of pop, drinks, and snacks are priced three times or more than what you can buy on your own.
15) If you have to purchase an item with a credit card and you don’t have the funds to pay it off – don’t get it.
If you found you are doing most everything above, then you are on a good path. If not, don’t hesitate to do so. Procrastination will hurt you in the end. You’ll feel better knowing you are improving your finances. It’s best to have enough savings to last you through at least 6 months. When times get better, don’t change your saving habits. The money you saved will help you in the long run during the next downturn.
OH SAY CAN YOU SEE
When I was a kid I played softball. I started off as a third baseman. I did decent enough that I made all-star teams. Then things changed. I couldn’t seem to field the ball right. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. It got to me.
The coach moved me over to second base to see if that made things easier. It didn’t. It got so bad that I moved to right field or catcher where they usually tuck away the worst defensive player. I didn’t realize why my play got so bad until later in life. It was really simple. I needed glasses.
Yep, it was about ninth grade before I got them. I would squint so bad trying to see the board at school. It made it hard to cheat too – haha. A teacher said something to me about needing glasses and that in turn started the process of getting them.
It really affected my self esteem going from a decent player to stinking so bad. It was around high school I stopped playing, so I didn’t know needing glasses was why my play got so bad. I just couldn’t see the ball right and react to it.
I played again a few years later and I got my mojo back some, however I still had that nagging self-doubt. So I wasn’t 100%. I coached and won some championships in a softball league I helped found, the Lakefront Merchants Softball League. Wow, those were good times.
It was made up of businesses and their workers on the East Side. Tons of teams and great competition. No umps, which made it cheap, as most everyone that played was making minimum wage. Teams included Jote’s, Reiders Stop-n-Shop, Best Products, Furniture Warehouse, Sisters Chicken, KFC, Burger King, Marc’s, K-Mart, Hills, and many more.
I was the commisioner of the league for some time. It ran its course as softball waned from its heyday. Being in this self-isolation world now sure makes me pine for those days again. Hmm, I wonder if those same players who played back then want to give it another try? We may not be in the same shape and bending over to pick up a ball and running may not work all the same so many years later. However, getting a beer at BW3 afterwards works all the same!
