GARAGE SALES<\/strong>
\nSchool is starting back up soon and it makes it a good time to check out garage sales. Many people have them in August. <\/p>\n

It’s a right of passage for a homeowner to have a garage sale. Over time things accumulate and you have to get rid of them. That bowl whose design on it you just never liked – it goes for 50 cents. The shirt that reminded you of the time you fell on the dance floor – that goes for $1.25. A wedding gift that never saw the light of day – $10.<\/p>\n

I think some people like to buy stuff just so they can sell it at a garage sale. i just wonder if hoarders ever have garage sales. <\/p>\n

I donate my “excess” so I’ve never had a garage sale myself of my own. Growing up we had them. I used to go to some too. I was always looking for a Van Gogh or Picasso painting that someone mistook as a K-Mart blue light special.<\/p>\n

Moving sales are great because people get rid of quality items they don’t want to haul across the country, especially furniture and appliances. Great to go on the last day of the sale to buy whatever didn’t sell. Some people like to show up before a garage sale opens, even a day before just to browse and get the good deals.<\/p>\n

Factor in the cost of gas when you go to garage sales. <\/p>\n

Don’t buy things that you don’t need even if they are cheap. Lots of garage sales sell junk that clutters up a home. Look for items that are needed and useful. After all, do you really need another porcelian cow for your collection?<\/p>\n

Do you really know what happened to the item you are buying? Think of it this way…it could have been vomited on or something worse. If you can live with it…first, you are gross…second, bless your heart as you really must love a bargain. In other words, sometimes buying something new at a store is for the better.<\/p>\n

Check them out when you are travelling. I found some great deals on T-shirt souvenirs at the one at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. They were $2 apiece for new t-shirts.<\/p>\n

EBAY<\/strong>
\nMany people buy items from eBay, but buyer beware. You can get scammed. You can find deals, but if you can’t see or feel the item you may not get what you want or get anything at all.<\/p>\n

TAX HOLIDAYS<\/strong>
\nNot as many states are doing tax holidays this year. A tax holiday is where a state has certain days (a holiday) where they don’t tax certain items like clothes, green appliances, and other items.

MORTGAGE RATES<\/strong>
\nHave you refinanced? Why not? Rates are at record lows. Why wait? Don’t be paralyzed into no looking into it. The unknown scares a lot of people into not bettering themselves financially or in many other ways.
\nDon’t want to pay the closing costs? – ask for a no closing costs rate. The interest rate is higher, but they don’t charge you closing costs. Or include the closing costs into the loan and get the lower rate.
\nJust been too busy? – so you don’t want to save possibly tens of thousands of dollars for something that will take less than an hour to look into?
\nHouse worth less than what you owe? – they have programs that may help with that issue. Contact a bank to see what they could do.<\/p>\n

If your mortgage rate is 5% or higher, even 4.5% or higher, it’s worth checking to see how much you could save by refinancing. I’ve done it twice the past few years I’ve saved so much! There’s a good chance you could pay the same or less and reduce the number of years you will have to pay the loan, possibly up to 15 years less!<\/p>\n

The average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage fell again, this time dropping below 3.50 percent for the first time on records dating back 60 years to 3.49 percent. That’s down from 3.53 percent the other week and the lowest since long-term mortgages began in the 1950s.<\/p>\n

The average rate on the 15-year fixed mortgage, a popular refinancing option, dipped to 2.80 percent. That’s below last week’s previous record of 2.83 percent.<\/p>\n

The rate on the 30-year loan has fallen to or matched record-low levels in 13 of the past 14 weeks.
