\nBUTTERNUT SQUASH<\/strong>
\nI enjoy a good butternut squash soup. Not a phrase you’ll hear everyday. It’s creamy with a touch of sweetness and it’s good for you. A dollop of sour cream or nut sprinkles give it an interesting twist.<\/p>\n

I found some good deals on Butternut Squash at a couple Farmers Markets. Patterson’s Fruit Farm on Caves Road in Chesterland had it for $2 each not matter what size it was. Up the street at the Eddy Fruit Farm they had them for $2.50 each. They are on sale this week at Aldis for 59 cents EACH. They were about a third the size of the ones at the Farmers Market, but still a great deal. The ones at both Fruit Farms were huge like a baby porpoise. If you tapped your chin and thought about it some you can just envision them looking like a baby porpoise. Go ahead and do it. I’ll wait……. See… I told you so!<\/p>\n

I drew some eyes on one of the squashes to see if my cats would make friends with a butternut squash. All they seemed interested in doing was rubbing their jowls up against the piece of stalk on it. I’m not sure what you officially call it, but it’s like the umbilical cord for plants. Anyway, it’s hard and scratchy so the cats like to rub up on it. Maybe they’re testing it to see if it would make a good scratching post. I’m thinking bunions would make good scratching posts, but there are only so many of them to go around.<\/p>\n

HOLIDAYS<\/strong>
\nThe holidays are coming up. A bad time for some. Sometimes it reminds people of a recent or past death in the family. For some loneliness. For some money issues. For some you have to deal with idiot relatives. You know, the one that is self-righteous and judgmental, but happens to be the hypocritical one that needs the most help. Then there is the drunk. Always making a spectacle of themselves. Their spouse cowers wondering what they will do this time. Or there are the ones that are miserable and negative and always causing problems instead of trying to solve them. Some need help, but don’t accept it because it means having to accept ones faults even though we are all not perfect. Take your pick. Most all families have them. Some more than others. Families, just like marriages, take work to make them solid. It helps to have the right upbringing. It helps to, besides oneself, to have family that is humble and forgiving. <\/p>\n

As much as there are problems in families there are some that think that pushing them away and not dealing with them is the best answer. Again, it doesn’t solve anything. Resentments still remain. Some let preconceived notions of the other person cloud their reasoning and understanding of that person. Some are so rigid that they don’t understand that some people are just different than them, good or bad. Some don’t care enough to want to get to the root of the issue. Whatever it is, here’s hoping good times for you and your family with the upcoming holidays. Hopefully you’ll make peace over a Snickers snack size bar, turkey wishbone, or egg nog.<\/p>\n
