\nTRENDS<\/strong>
\nThere are many new trends that have started at stores and businesses. Many stores are trying to become mini-versions of their competition. Some are trying to connect with customers.<\/p>\n

Did you notice how the drugstores like CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens keep expanding their food sections? Some even offer fresh produce. Back some years ago these same stores didn’t have much food and some didn’t even have wine or beer.<\/p>\n

Another section that is new is the dollar aisle at the drugstores. The items are $1 or $2 to compete against the ever-burgeoning dollar stores. They are trying to compete by being mini-versions of a dollar store. Marcs has even gotten into adding bakeries and delis. I’m waiting for stores to offer up haircuts while I get the stuff out of my cart too. <\/p>\n

Many of these stores will have to try to differentiate themselves from other stores. Service is huge. I’ve had to walk out of two stores this past week because the lines were too long or slow and there were not enough cashiers (Harbor Freight and CVS). Many stores will call for cashier help, but that takes a few minutes for help to arrive, if at all, after repeated announcements. Not good if you are in a rush. Most every store is hiring now and even more will start hiring before the holiday season. It will be interesting to see if the stores hire enough and if the workers are good workers and customer-friendly. A solution that could work is one that Tops did for a bit while they were here. Tops used to give $1 to anyone that was in a line with more than 3 people waiting in line. <\/p>\n

Another trend is for bartenders to greet you by shaking your hand and letting you know their name and asking for yours. Leave me alone please. I’m sure you’re nice and are only doing what you are told to do, but this cat only wants you to notice me when I try to chase you down to take an order. However, if you want to tell me a knock, knock joke then I’m all ears.<\/p>\n

One annoying trend is that computer systems don’t read coupons right, especially at Walgreens. Their scanners never seem to pick up the barcode right. The cashier has to hand key the barcode which is very time-consuming. The new barcodes might cause issues with their systems and Walgreens already replaced their scanners not too long ago. Today their system didn’t even upload all the Register Reward and Balance Rewards and they had to hand key in all the discounts.<\/p>\n

Another trend is the cashier at the register nearest the door will greet you when you walk in. Rite Aid has been doing it at their stores. Sometimes I hear a voice and I don’t know where it is coming from as sometimes their cashiers are stocking shelves where I can’t see them which freaks me out. They must have some edict to make sure they do it. One day I will run full speed into the store to see if they still greet me even though I’m a blur running past the door. <\/p>\n
