\nLast month there were no coupons in the All You magazine. After December there won’t even be a magazine! They are ceasing publication of the magazine after December. After complaining numerous times to them about the lack of coupons after years of bountiful coupons in their editions, they never responded. That was a clue enough that things weren’t right there.<\/p>\n

If you are still a subscriber you will be offered a replacement Time-owned magazine.<\/p>\n

Apparently what helped trigger the reduction in coupons is when an April article mentioned purchasing coupons from eBay as a source for coupons. That’s a no-no in the couponing world. Some companies offer coupons by selling their “clipping service”. So they get around it by saying you pay for the clipping rather than the coupons themselves. Coupons themselves can’t be sold as per the stipulations on a coupon.
\n

\nBack some time ago I even complained to All You about how their e-mails I received for subscribing to them were addressed to women only even though last I checked I was a guy. Normally I wouldn’t care about a mass e-mail being sent as such, but I wanted them to acknowledge that men also coupon and do all the shopping in some households. The editor gave me a smarmy response. Needless to say, I think they blew it on a few levels by not listening to readers about the reduction in coupons and all. <\/p>\n

\nGamestop, Staples, Half Priced Books, and Mattress Firm all won’t be on Thanksgiving. Some other stores haven’t announced whether they will be open or not, including some that were closed last year. Might be a new trend. They’ll probably push online shopping that day. instead<\/p>\n

\nThese freebie kid cookie cards reminds me of a story. We belonged to a beach club where I grew up and every summer they had a get-together with all the members. Lotsa food and games for kids. One game they always had was that they would color the one side of a penny and you had to find it in a grassy area amongst the tons of other pennies to win a prize. I won it the one year. I was like a vacuum cleaner across the blades of grass.<\/p>\n

One of the prizes I got was free cookie cards for Pick-n-Pay. I got a handful of them. So I went to Pick-n-Pay and asked for the free cookies. I had multiple cards so, of course, being a child and not knowing there were stipulations to cookie cards I wanted multiple cookies. I wanted to eat my weight in cookies after all.<\/p>\n

The person that took the cards at the bakery fussed about it and then called the manager. He comes over and looks at them. It was an older bald guy with a dark mustache. He takes a look at the cards and then starts to berate me and says I must have stolen all of them. I was stunned. I told him that I won them. I never stole anything in my life. No matter. He kept berating me. I think I wanted to punch him in the forehead with my little 8-year-old hands. That was if I could reach that high. Better yet, I should have slammed him to the floor like Kimbo Slice.<\/p>\n

The card might have said there was only one cookie card per person and one cookie a day, but at that time I probably didn’t know there were legal terms and conditions to a cookie card. To me each card equaled one cookie.<\/p>\n

It was my first lesson in how adults and people in authority sometimes make judgments on people that fit their stereotype. I was just a kid that wanted cookies. To him I was a mastermind thief that figured out how to finagle getting cookie cards. I definitely didn’t look like the thug type. Unless a bowl haircut looked menacing in that day. Not like I was smoking a cigarette with a leather jacket on, full of tattoos, and spitting as I talked. At that point I could’ve taken the path in life of crime because that was how I was labeled. Naw. I just didn’t have it in me.<\/p>\n

I can’t remember if I even got a cookie. By then I wasn’t hungry for one. I was angry at the world and had to simmer down. I was ready to start a ban on Pick-n-Pay and let the world know that they slighted me on some cookies. I was so ready to feast on cookies, but instead I had a fistful of stupid cookie cards. I marched out of the store with a frown. I found out people can judge harshly whether it was deserved or not. <\/p>\n

As fate would have it, Pick-n-Pay turned into Finast which turned into Tops which ended up going out of business in the area. I’m sure it was all because they didn’t give a little boy his cookie he was due. How’s that for karma Mr. Pick-n-Pay cookie card Take Awayer! <\/p>\n

\nThis past Thursday I was contacted by a producer for Tyra Bank’s Fab Life show. They wanted me to come on the show to do a segment on couponing. We Skyped with them Friday night. As of now I may be on the show this week – looks like Tuesday. Nothing for sure yet. I would fly out to LA for the show. Chrissy Teigen, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, is also part of the show.
