\nI recently went on a spree to have my bills lowered. I was successful on all and I’ll give you tips on how you can do so too. <\/p>\n

The first was with Tivo. I had some issues with our unit so they credited about three months worth of bills. It pays to complain! Most offer some minimal credits should there be a disruption in service. <\/p>\n

The other was with our AT&T cellphone plan. Because of an issue with switching to a plan where the price quoted was not what I received, I got a $110 credit. In essence, it was a $10 per month credit from the start of when they increased my bill. The kicker with that one is that I had called about the issue last year they said they couldn’t do anything about it. Persistence pays off sometimes…even a year later. <\/p>\n

I called Time Warner to get my bill lowered after it increased. I ended up reducing it after going to a basic plan. Got rid of my cable box. Saved me around $20 a month after they tried to increase my rates. I also had a service charge of $29.99 credited. They tried to sneak the charge in without letting me know about it.<\/p>\n

My AT&T internet charge increased. I called them and downgraded my UVerse internet from 18 Mbs to 6 Mbs and haven’t noticed a difference in speed. I upgraded when they ran specials. That reduced my bill by $10 after they had increased it.
\n

\nOne of the keys to getting your bill lowered is to call their Retention department. They have the authority to give credits. If you speak to Customer Service, they may not be able to help as they may not have the authority to give bigger credits, if any at all. <\/p>\n

Sometimes the company doesn’t have deals in place that they can offer. So calling back even after getting a “no” initially can be successful. Cable companies offer deals that usually last 6 or 12 months, so you have to call back to get the newest deal after they expire. <\/p>\n

I keep a list with what I pay per month. That way I can see at a glance whether the bill increased. Charges always tend to increase so it pays to keep them in check. It helps when you are talking with them to let them know what the bill cost used to be, so they have a point of reference as to what is ok for you to pay.<\/p>\n
