Before the interview I had a photographer take some pictures of me. He recognized me from an article the PD did on me around ten years ago. He was the one that took the pics for that article! The reporter freaked out a little when the photographer recognized me because they have a rule not to do a story on anyone that has already been in the paper within five years. Umm, that doesn’t include criminals or politicians or sports figures.<\/p>\n

I did my best Glamour Shots poses letting my tresses flow over my shoulders like Fabio. I felt like I was posing for my graduation pictures at Olan Mills. Tilt your head a little more this way. Hold the book with both hands. Put your hands on the split rail fence, etc. <\/p>\n

Sometimes articles don’t capture everything. Lots said doesn’t get printed. Some things get creatively edited. No different than in the past when I was interviewed. The story or article needs to be compelling to the reader so it sometimes straddles what was said and what was implied. Some of my corrections didn’t make the cut as the deadline to print came soon after the article was published online.<\/p>\n

Here are some tips that didn’t make the article:

\u2022Sign up for deals from area business and restaurants – I got deals like free appetizers for the Hofbrau Haus just for signing up to get their e-mails.<\/p>\n

\u2022Miles Market sometimes has a $10 off $40 coupon in the coupon magazine mailers that come out every other month.<\/p>\n

\u2022Use Mobisave, Ibotta, and Checkout51 to scan your receipts via your smartphone to get monetary rewards.<\/p>\n

A little more about me. They asked where I worked. I manage the Central Services department where I work which includes everything from IT-related functions such as being in charge of our global web conferencing services, multi-function copiers, Hyland Onbase software, and audio-visual services. I also handle purchasing, mail and shipping services, invoicing, and many other things. My past responsibilities included the data network and telecommunications.<\/p>\n

Before I went to ETI Technical College I went to North Texas State University. When I got there I found out they were tripling the tuition. Becoming an in-state student was an option to get lower tuition, but the rules weren’t concrete so I found myself back in Cleveland attending Cleveland State before I decided to go to ETI. Life throws curveballs and you have to make the best of it. Ended up being valedictorian for their Associate’s and Bachelor’s program.<\/p>\n

We hosted Rita Rodriguez from Portugal and Daisy Grasl from Austria for a full school year through the AFS exchange student program. When Rita got here she asked what I wanted to be called. I said Megatron. Eventually both girls called us Mom and Dad and we love them like as if they were our own daughters. We have also hosted Lake County Captains players, Sicnarf Loopstok from Aruba and Jose Medina from the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n

Some other food I like: the Buffalo Chicken sandwich at Max & Erma’s, wings and their sauces at Local Tavern, Gallucci’s Meatball sub. I also like anything I can eat with a fork, spoon or bare hands for that matter.<\/p>\n

I’ve found great restaurants I would normally may have never tried just because I had a coupon for them. A recent one is Sasa in Shaker Square using a Cleveland Independents deck card coupon.<\/p>\n

I really enjoy teaching people how to save money. I know it can take them on a path to an easier life. It’s about how you spend …and don’t spend… the money you have. I never heard someone say they saved too much money after a shopping trip!<\/p>\n

I’ve taught tons of people all across Ohio from businesses to PTA’s to Libraries. I’ve even taught classes at Chik-Fil-A -(they paid me in Chik-Fil-A gift cards). I had a record 150 people attend my Travel Affordably class the other month at West Geauga Library. <\/p>\n

I taught money-saving classes at Lakeland Community College for many years, including classes on how to save money on cell phones, savings for teenagers, wedding savings, gas and natural glass savings, and of course, my Savvy Shopper coupon class.<\/p>\n

Cleveland still has very high poverty and I’m hoping teaching people how to better manage their money helps them in more ways than one. They typically don’t teach in school how to manage money. Home Economics was a class where they taught it years ago, but not anymore.<\/p>\n

Cleveland has it warts and all. So many great things are happening, especially downtown. Conversely, there is too much crime.<\/p>\n

The cost of living here in Cleveland is so much better than other parts of the country. Just ask anyone that moved out of state.<\/p>\n

I love Cleveland (by the way, Congrats Heavyweight Champ Stipe, fellow Ranger, Willowickian, and Croatian!) and I’ve had people tell me I’m Mr. Cleveland because I tout the city so much to outsiders and know lots about the city. Clevelanders know how great this city is and its potential. Hopefully, with some more tweaking it can get even better. It’s like that favorite poncho you like to wear on Saturdays that has holes in it. Doesn’t fit everyone, but boy it feels comfortable like butter on a waffle. <\/p>\n

If you do complain about all the issues the city has then do something instead of just complaining. Volunteer. Make a difference.<\/p>\n

Oh, and here are some things that might be a bit unbelievable about me. I leg pressed 700 lbs. I got a base hit off Len Barker, the Cleveland Indians perfect game pitcher. Using some psychic abilities, I worked with a local police department on a murder cold case.<\/p>\n

I was also the 1982 Lake County News-Herald Carrier of the Year. As impressive as that might have been, it didn’t get me the babes.<\/p>\n
