\nCHRISTMAS TREES <\/strong>
\nChristmas tree prices jumped this year due to a shortage of trees. The average price last yer was $74.20 and it’s expected to be higher this year. It had been around $40, on average, for many years prior.
\n

\nThis year I was able to yet again get a bargain. I stopped up at Sobusta Farms where the price was $45 up to $10 and $80 for anything taller. I had to walk to the very back of the property to find it. Any further and I would have been in someone else’s backyard. Then again if I found a tree outside of the property I might have found myself a mighty fine tree.<\/p>\n

So far out kittens haven’t used the tree as their Jungle Jim. I just know one day they will be perched somewhere near the top of the tree chewing on the lights. They have enjoyed hanging out sleeping under the tree and lapping up some pine-flavored water in the tree stand. <\/p>\n

I found a tree that was around 11′ 1\/2” tall. He still charged me $45. Pickings were slim and the tree we cut had a double trunk (two trunks growing near the base) and that’s probably why nobody cut it down. It was a nice full tree with a bonus bird’s nest in it.

\nLowe’s and Home Depot sell trees for around $30 and more. Most are spray-painted green. If you belong to the Home Depot Garden Club you can get a coupon for $5 off $50 or $10 off $100 for their garden area, making it a little cheaper.<\/p>\n

Check out church lots and other organizations that sell trees on their lot as sometimes their prices are ok.<\/p>\n

I usually go to places with cut-your-own trees that have a set price for any tree on their property. Not too many of them left. \nAt this time of the year it’s apropos to give to those less fortunate. Giving to reputable charities is one way of helping the community. Unfortunately there are some charities that are shams. For instance, the Ohio Cops for Kids charity allegedly bilked thousands of donors out of $4.2 million while the charity spent less than 2 percent of its money on actual charitable donations, according to a lawsuit recently filed by the Ohio Attorney General.<\/p>\n

Give to a charity that doesn\u2019t spend most of its donations on administration. At minimum, 65% to 70% of a charity\u2019s money should go to its programs and not administration. Some charities have 100% go to the programs. The sites below will show the percentage a chartiy pays to administration and some also grade them. Some charities don’t have the data for the sites to list their ratings and percentage. <\/p>\n
