Incessant commercials about how bad the other candidate is. Some of it is truthful, but many distort the truth as shown in the PD’s Politifact meter. Find out which candidates are telling the truth at: http://www.politifact.com/ohio/

Some candidates are worse than others, but both sides are distorting the truth. What scares me more is that people don’t see through politicians lies, fear-mongering, and distortions. If your candidate lied about the other while the other one didn’t would you still vote for yours, especially if it was about something serious? What does that say about their integrity? Are what these candidates proposing benefitting themselves or us?

And it’s great to say what everyone wants to hear like lower taxes, less government, and lowering the debt, but by doing so does that mean getting rid of Social Security, Medicare, Firefighters, and Police? Are we really better off watering down regulation that got us into this mess in the first place? Or will it spur the economy? What are the specific plans to help the ones hurt hardest in this Recession, the poor and middle-class? Why are the specifics being hid?

Will continuing tax breaks to the rich help the economy? Or will it help spur the economy to do away with them? I’m all for lower taxes, but what will happen? In 1918, the top rate of the income tax was increased to 77% on income over $1,000,000 to finance World War I. The top marginal tax rate was reduced to 58% in 1922, to 25% in 1925 and finally to 24% in 1929. In 1932 the top marginal tax rate was increased to 63% during the Great Depression and steadily increased, reaching 94% on all income over $200,000 in 1945. Top marginal tax rates stayed near or above 90% until 1964 when the top marginal tax rate was lowered to 70%. The top marginal tax rate was lowered to 50% in 1982 (a Recession followed it) and eventually to 28% in 1988 (a Recession followed it). It’s 35% now. Notice the pattern of Recessions and Depressions following the lowering of the top marginal tax rate.

The housing boom kept the economy flying artificially high just like the dot.com boom did. What’s next? Green jobs? I’d like to see manufacturing back in the U.S. But will the lobbyists keep us from progressing?

In this political climate there are high expectations that whoever is voted in will need to improve things pronto. Although we didn’t fall into a Depression, the unemployment rate is still very high. Whoever gets elected will need to change things for the better quickly – no excuses. Voters don’t have the patience now. And the unemployed don’t have the time to wait. Here’s hoping that whoever gets elected, they work together for the common good of everyone.

WATER DISCOUNTS
Some cities offer summer sprinkling discounts. When water is used to water lawns it doesn’t go through the sewer system so some offer water discounts when the customer contacts them to get the discount. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer district messed up their billing and now they are giving credits from $20 to $70 per user. Some customers got the discount when they didn’t sign up for the program – no word yet on what they will do there.

WATERSTREET GRILL RESTAURANT
I was amazed to find a bottle of BV Central Cellars merlot for $12 there. It’s usually at least $20 elsewhere. Many other bottles were priced from $12 to $18. Some I’ve seen at twice the price elsewhere. They are located on West 9th.

GRAVEYARD MALL
Find deals up to over 90% off!
