After a couple failed buyouts from competitors, they are trying to make it on their own. They cleared out inventory at their stores with plans to revamp them with new products. Now many aisles are missing product and replaced with boxes and advertising. Are they slowing their revamp as not to reinvest more inventory in their stores? They already redid the outside of the stores, so how about putting out more product to increase sales?? Stay tuned.<\/p>\n

\nNEW CAR PURCHASE <\/strong>
\nNow is a tough time to buy a car. What did we just do? Yep, buy a new car. I always tell people the best time to buy a car is when you don’t need one. Well, we needed one because the Prius we had was starting to need some TLC.<\/p>\n

My wife needed to replace her 10 year old Prius. It was due for a lot of upkeep, so rather than put money into a car that we didn’t plan to have much longer, we decided to replace it with a new one. Back a couple years ago I had already started looking into it and got quotes, but I didn’t get the right deal.<\/p>\n

Covid hit and that threw everything into a tizzy, especially car manufacturing. What happened to the supply chain world made things even worse. Needed computer chips to finish making a car were hard to come by. It was to the point that when we went shopping for cars and there weren’t any cars to buy! So we did what many had to do and order one. We ordered it in July and it finally got here in December.<\/p>\n

We didn’t put a deposit on the car, but most dealerships do request you do when ordering and putting a car on hold. One hitch is that the rebates available the day you ordered may not be available when you finally get the car. Sure enough, we had it happen to us, but found a way around it.
\n

\nAt the time we ordered the car there was a $500 rebate available. When I got the car there were no regular rebates for it. However, I asked what else we could get and they said we could finance $5,000 and get a $500 rebate. The interest, should we have paid it, would’ve costs $149 for the term or we could just pay it off the first month with around $10 in interest and that is what we planned to do.
\n

\nNext was the price. Any car being sold now is at MSRP or over it. No real haggling to be done. In November, 2021, nearly 87% of all new vehicles bought by individual customers sold at or above the sticker price, according to research firm J.D. Power. I got pricing at various dealerships using online pricing at https:\/\/www.kbb.com\/free-dealer-price-quote\/<\/a>. The pricing didn’t vary much. All dealerships are having the same inventory issues, so we are at the mercy of supply and demand right now.<\/p>\n

We did get the car at MSRP. However, we had a trade-in. This is where I can beat them up. Used cars are hot. They are selling at a premium, so this is where I have some leverage. The beauty of it is that the taxed amount goes down when you trade in your car. I was able to get an additional $500 off the purchase just in lowered taxes alone.
\n

\nI then had to settle on a price for the trade-in. I gave them an exorbitant amount…it expands their price range doing so. Normally, I would let them come back with a price because they may come in way above what you expect. But in these times, I had to do it first.<\/p>\n

They came in lower than I expected. I told him I found it at a higher price in Kelly Blue book. We then went through the Kelly Blue book price and found it higher. So I pushed them on a reasonable offer that I knew they wouldn’t take. The car did need some work on it and probably so soon I might have to get the car towed in if I had to wait for another car to come along, so I knew I couldn’t leave without a deal. He didn’t need to know that. I pumped up the car to get a better price – hey, we still have the second key, so that alone should increase the price tons! My wife was freaking out because I was trying to get every dollar I could to the point it seemed like I was going to walk away from the deal and she just wanted a car. We waited six months for it after all.<\/p>\n

I counter-offered and he bumped up his price after talking with the estimators. It wasn’t good enough for me. I kept pushing. He then puts in an amount and said he knows he would have some explaining to do with his boss, but he wanted to make it work. Was it a sales tactic by him? Maybe, but the deal was now good enough for me. Sold!<\/p>\n

They also offered a deal on the extended warranty. I worked him down to the price where he was selling it at cost. However, the last Prius lasted us 10 years and it didn’t have an extended warranty. They are well made, so why spend money for something we may never use. He said we can decide later, if we wanted to get it at the price he quoted.<\/p>\n

The nice thing with Toyota is that you get free oil changes the first two years of the car along with free tire rotations. Most dealerships also offer free car washes whenever you stop by.<\/p>\n

If you go shopping for a car, know that there are not many in the lot for sale. There were none in stock for some models and any that come in are on hold for customers that made deposits. So if you need a car, know it might take some time to get a deal done. Plan now! We got a car in our stocking just in time!<\/p>\n
