Around 6.6 million jobs were created in 2021, a record for one year and the highest since 1976 when 3.9 million jobs were created. The positive trend is expected to continue.

\nAs summer jobs start to get filled the numbers will only get better. Competition for workers will grow even stronger. It’s tough for businesses right now to find workers, especially those that show up to work after being hired. Recently, I went to Burger King and noticed there weren’t any cars in the drive-thru. As we pull up I see a sign that says they closed at 4:00 PM! They aren’t even open during the dinner rush! This was on a Saturday. They used to be open until 2 AM! On a good note, maybe it’s a good thing not to be able to buy fast food.<\/p>\n

A lot of retail stores and restaurants are now letting customers know that they are short-handed and orders might take longer while they keep having to train new employees. I was at the new Bibibop restaurant in Mentor using some coupons I got with their Grand Opening and each time I went the worker taking the order had to look at an ingredient list on how to make the food bowl. Yep, brand new workers each time. Everyone’s patience will be tested with businesses being short-handed workers and it won’t change anytime soon as the economy continues to ramp up and less workers available due to baby boomers retiring and a smaller generation replacing them.<\/p>\n

\nSome exciting news to share in the world of baseball. Four of the players we hosted are now on the Columbus Clippers team (the AAA Cleveland minor league team)! A step away from the Indians! They stayed with us when they played for the Lake County Captains. They are Richie Palacios OF\/2B, Jonathan Englemann OF\/1B, Eli Lingos P and Aaron Pinto P. They all started last year at Akron and won the championship. Let’s hope they keep that trend going up through the Indians…err, Guardians!<\/p>\n

Another cool tidbit. I managed the player that ranked #1 this year in NCAA Div 1 basketball field goal percentage and was MVP in the MAC NCAA tournament for his stellar defensive and offensive play. It was through a work-study program with St Martin De Porres when he was a student there. His name is Enrique Freeman and he plays for the University of Akron. When he worked with us he was skinny like a broom handle and now he is a big dude. He grew about 2 feet a year. Getting scouted by the NBA.
