\nCAR INSURANCE RATES INCREASE <\/strong>
\nCar insurance rates have increased, so it’s a good time to shop around your car insurance. The average car insurance cost was $1,704 in 2019, $1,587 in 2021 and $2,160 in 2024. Is this another flim flam way for companies to make exorbitant profits when it’s not justified?! Part of the reason for the increase was found to be, during the pandemic, people developed bad driving habits which later increased insurance claims. For example researchers discovered that during the pandemic, motorists were speeding more (and driving through intersections), seat belt use was down, and intoxicated driving arrests were up to near historic highs. At the height of the pandemic, road fatalities increased by 10.5% to their highest level since 2005, even while most Americans stayed at home. Fatalities in 2022 only decreased by 0.3% as compared to 2021. The increased price of auto parts and severity of claims were other reasons. So now motorists are paying for these bad driving habits and more.<\/p>\n

My own observations I see people speeding because there is less traffic. With so many people working at home there are less cars on the road. It used to be stop and go traffic going downtown in the morning. Not anymore. There are times when I’m driving with the flow of traffic and I look down to see I’m going 80 miles per hour and behind me I have someone on my tail as if I’m not driving fast enough.<\/p>\n

Another phenomena that leads to more accidents is when a “lead car” flies by speeding past traffic and a few other cars follow. It’s like a pied piper of bad drivers leading others to an increased chance of getting into an accident. They weave in and out of lanes even in rush hour and pretty much end up not getting much further ahead had they stayed in one lane.<\/p>\n

I also see more cars, usually pickup trucks, with flags dangling from them. They are more like potential projectiles. Plus they are a huge distraction to other drivers on the road. What happened to just bumper stickers saying what you want. The good ol’ WMMS bumper sticker or some other humorous one. Now people put graphic ones that are obnoxious and include violence to sexual to adult language. Even Calvin peeing on a Ford logo is tame. Don’t people realize that kids see all this and think it’s acceptable.<\/p>\n

Something else I noticed is that cars that blast their music keeps them from hearing any horns, police, or ambulances and that can lead to accidents. I have to admit, when I listen to the car radio and one of my favorite songs pop up on the radio, the cars within a half mile around me get to enjoy it too. Guilty!<\/p>\n

\n\"Sharper<\/a><\/p>\n

\nWALMART SETTLEMENT <\/strong>
\nYou may be eligible for up to a $500 settlement from a $45 million settlement with Walmart for being overcharged for packaged meat, poultry, pork and seafood, and bagged citrus. Claims must be made by June 5th, 2024. The class-action alleged the packaging weight was included in the cost of the unit price.<\/p>\n

Consumers eligible to file a claim include anyone who made an in-store purchase of weighted goods or bagged citrus between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024. Those who bought an eligible product and have a receipt are entitled to get 2% of the total cost of their purchase, capped at $500. Those without a receipt can submit a claim for between $10 and $25, depending upon how much they attest to buying.<\/p>\n

\nGET A DEAL, PULL OUT A GUN <\/strong>
\nSadly, this story happened in my hometown. A guy pulled a gun and threatened to kill a Burger King worker. Why, you ask? He told the worker his order should cost $11 and the worker told him there was a deal going on and it was only $8. So he was upset because he was charged less. Yikes. He should be giving the worker a hug and not pointing a gun at him. He also hurled racial slurs and insults. This happened at 9 am in Willowick on Easter Sunday. Yes, Easter Sunday. Perhaps he had mental problems, but maybe not as this kind of behavior is similar to what I see people spout on Facebook. People say things that I can’t believe they are saying for all people to see what a racist, bigot, sexist, etc. person they are.
