They contacted me to be on the show. I had to submit a video and other stuff. I didn’t make this round, but they said they may get me on if the show takes off. We’ll see.

The first batch of couponers were more for their wowing viewers with their stock and dumpster diving. They could’ve made it on the show Hoarders too. Their hauls were pretty impressive. I try to temper my stock some by donating and balancing my time with all I do, so I’m not sure I’m made for TV as far as that goes. But the show will bring people into the crazy world of super-couponing. As many of you know it is a wild one.

MY TOP TEN RESOLUTIONS FOR 2011
10) Resist the penchant for having daisies painted on my cheeks by clowns at local festivals.
9) Get enough courage to throw out my throat culture collection.
8) Stop making fun of people that keep their mouth open when they are perplexed.
7) Succeed in having someone name their baby Nipsey.
6) Stop interrupting people when they talk by raising my hand when I want to talk.
5) Whistle with more gusto.
4) Stop making loud bleating sounds and dancing the robot when I find a great buy at a garage sale.
3) Train my cats to do the laundry and minor math equations.
2) Grow a handlebar mustache in which I can have sparrows perch from to sing their elaborate songs.
1) Keep practicing to become the next American Idol.

THE QUICKEST LANE
What lane is the quickest? One with less people or one that is longer but the people have less items in their cart?

Although it varies, the checkout lane with the least amount of people should be quicker than one with more people irregardless of the number of items each has. Figuring that it takes only a couple seconds to scan an item and bag it, it takes a minute or two to transition from one customer to the next since it takes time for introductions, moving carts, scanning the loyalty card, and credit card payment.

People with children may take longer to go through a line since they will be busy trying to attend to the child while they are near the candy by the register.

Self scanners aren’t always quicker. Giant Eagle self-scanners will beep if you use more than two of the same coupon. They will also beep if you save over 30%. If they beep, a cashier will have to intervene to scan the coupon. If you have alcohol it will take longer to get through self-checkout since you’ll have to wait for someone to scan it. Produce that needs to be weighed will typically take longer in a self-checkout lane too since a cashier will be more experienced at scanning it.

Some other tricks to move up in line is to get uncomfortably close to the person in line in front of you. They most likely will let you move in front of them. Another trick is to recite the Gettysburg Address out loud. People tend to scatter when you do that just like a cockroach when you turn the lights on. Lastly, try tickling the person in front of you until they lose control and can’t stand anymore and that is when you make your move to dash in front of them.

CHIKFILA
Make your reservation for a premiere tasting of the Spicy Chicken Biscuit.
