\nDEAD BATTERY<\/strong>
\nI started my car the other day and it fluttered and wouldn’t start. Dead battery. It was starting fine up until then so it caught me off guard. Luckily, my wife hadn’t left for work yet so we car-pooled in together. I could’ve tried to jump the car, but there would’ve been a good chance that the car would’ve died again. I also thought of stringing together a bunch of AA batteries that I got for free at Staples and OfficeMax, but one chuckhole and my taped up batteries would’ve fell apart and done me no good.<\/p>\n

Did you ever have one of those emergencies where you had to find a good deal in a very short amount of time just like this one for a car battery? Sometimes you settle for the a very minimal deal, if at all since it is an emergency. There are ways around it though to make sure you still get a deal and a good one at that. I keep a folder of car maintenance deals with me at all times for that reason.<\/p>\n

The first thing I did was check some auto stores to see if any batteries were on sale. Nothing! I checked Auto Zone, O’Reillys, and Advance Auto<\/a>. I also checked to see if the Toyota dealership I got that car at had a deal and they did. They had a bunch of deals online on their site. Problem is that they close early so and I didn’t want to wait another day to get the battery installed. Plus I would’ve had to fuss with trying to get the car there.<\/p>\n

I then went to my site! Yep, they have deals with Advance Auto that I post every week. I found the batteries that fit the car and read the reviews of each. Some looked more like the generic batteries you get that barely last as they got bad reviews. They’re cheap and there’s a reason why they are so cheap. For not that much more there were better batteries that will last and had a good warranty. <\/p>\n

I keep a handy Consumer Reports annual guide of ratings for products to make sure I get the best value. Oddly enough, it didn’t list car batteries in it. Otherwise, that may have affected my decision. I did find a Consumer Reports magazine with the ratings on it when I got home and pretty much all the batteries they listed were recommended. I ended up getting a Duralast Gold. <\/p>\n

A code I posted for Advance Auto<\/a> got me 30% off which is pretty good for a battery price in the middle of winter. I couldn’t use a gift card I got from Giant Eagle, but they said they are working on it so that the online site takes gift cards. I set it up so that I picked it up at the nearest store. I took the battery out of my car and they credited me $18 for giving them the old battery. Advance and many other auto maintenance retailers will install batteries for free and dispose of your old one.<\/p>\n

I got home and with some fussing to get it back in I was able to connect it all back up. I didn’t electrocute myself which was a bonus. The car started so I was happy.<\/p>\n

The one thing that changes when you replace the battery is that the radio stations I programmed in had to be re-set. I pressed them anyway to see what wacky stations I could pick up. It gave me a chance to scan all the stations to see if there are any new ones that I would maybe want to listen to over any old ones that I programmed. I found some potential new ones that I haven’t listed to before. It was time anyway since I got tired of listening to some of the DJs that sounded very cheesy or had a low, gravely-voiced gal on that sounded like she smoked a jar of smokes each hour. It made my lungs hurt just listening.<\/p>\n

I usually flip around all the stations when I drive to and from work. I play the radio buttons like a piano. Sometimes I’m in the mood to rock it and just listen to music. Sometimes I want to hear news and talk banter. Rover is always interesting. I brush up on my big words listening to Alan Cox. Sports has been a staple too with the sports world revolving around Cleveland. You can usually catch me rocking out to some tunes too while doing my American Idol best. Just be happy that I keep the windows rolled up when I do. <\/p>\n

\nIt’s freezing cold and great weather to watch a movie at a movie theater. Check out area movie theater deals below.
