\nConsumer Reports rated the best stores and Wegmans was again voted the best store with a score of 90. The ratings have to be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, the ratings do not include which stores have the best pricing. The ratings come from survey responses from 62,917 readers from March 2013 and July 2014. The ratings take into account food freshness and store quality. They stated that scores with a difference of 6 points are not meaningful, so in other words a score of 74 and 70 are not significantly different that there is that much of a difference in the stores. Wal-mart was again rated last (tied with A&P and Waldbaum’s).<\/p>\n

\nDISHWASHER ON THE FRITZ<\/strong>
\nSo our dishwasher was leaving the dishes dirty after being washed so I figured maybe something was clogging the drains. There was also some water leaking from the door and the gel cleaner capsule never dissolved all the way. It was just globbed on the utensils. Plus the foamy water never drained. I used my electric blower to blow around the bottom area of the washer and sure enough some lemon seeds popped out. Viola! The problem was fixed …or so I thought. <\/p>\n

We washed the dishes again and the dishes weren’t cleaned all the way through again. This time I was going to have to tinker around more. I’m an ok handyman, but I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to fix the issue. I started to research getting a new dishwasher, but I figured I’d try one more time to see if I could fix it.<\/p>\n

I unscrewed the innards of the dishwasher. Some parts weren’t as cooperative coming out as others. Underneath the spinning wand I found some piece of broken glass by the water intake area. Some more lemon seeds too…looks like the missus will need to make sure those little boogers don’t get in there anymore as she drinks lemon water everyday. There were a few big pieces of glass and some smaller bits. I cleaned them out and checked the other piping to make sure nothing more was stuck and now it looked like the problem was solved…or so I thought.<\/p>\n

We washed the dishes again and the dishes were still dirty. Here I thought I had the problem licked, but no. That is when a little discovery was made. Did you ever notice how those laundry gel capsules look just like the dishwasher ones? We use Finish usually, but Purex has a blue packaging just like them. Well, we found out we were using Purex laundry detergent capsules and that doesn’t work very well in a dishwasher. Oops. <\/p>\n

The dishes are much cleaner now, especially with the seeds and glass now cleaned out of the intakes. Now you know why store brands like to make their packages look like the name brand.<\/p>\n
