ELECTRONICS<\/strong>
\nSometimes the best time to get electronics is after the holidays. Better new models are introduced to replace the old ones. Plus with the Super Bowl around the corner there are TV deals to come. Find out the best time to buy an electronics item by checking http:\/\/www.decide.com<\/a>. It will tell you if they expect the price of the item to drop, stay the same, or rise. The site shows the price history, product detail, and cost at various suppliers of an item. <\/p>\n

CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER REDUCE YOUR GROCERY BILL STORY<\/strong>
\nThe PD did a story about getting deals at grocery stores. They quoted me in the story. Unfortunately the story got internet coupons and e-coupons mixed up. Stores will accept internet coupons with store coupons. They won’t allow a manufacturer and an internet manufacturer coupon on the same item just as they won’t allow two paper internet or two manufacturer’s coupons on one item. They will sometimes allow an e-coupon (not-printable coupon – just electronically attached to your loyalty card) and manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. Here is what I sent for the story:<\/p>\n

\u2022Take advantage of printable internet coupons offered on sites like http:\/\/www.coupons.com<\/a>, http:\/\/www.couponnetwork.com<\/a>, http:\/\/www.smartsource.com<\/a>, http:\/\/www.boxtops4education.com<\/a>, http:\/\/www.kelloggs.com<\/a>, and http:\/\/www.mambosprouts.com<\/a>. Most stores take internet coupons and they will double at stores that double with a qualifying coupon and purchase. <\/p>\n

\u2022Enable e-coupons that link up to your loyalty card. E-coupons are electronic coupons that are triggered when you enable them on a variety of sites. You’ll get discounts on your order at the register when you make a qualifying purchase. Depending on the store, some of these deals “stack”. Stacking is when you use a paper manufacturers coupon along with an e-coupon along with a paper store coupon or combination thereof all on one item. You can find e-coupons at http:\/\/www.savingstar.com<\/a>, http:\/\/www.gianteagle\/com\/save\/eoffers<\/a>, and http:\/\/www.shortcuts.com<\/a>. Giant Eagle doesn’t allow e-coupon\/paper coupon stacking.<\/p>\n

\u2022Buy items only when they are at least 50% off. Plus use a coupon at that time for even bigger savings. <\/p>\n

\u2022Most everything goes on sale every six weeks, so time your shopping and stock up to last you until it goes on sale again. Get extra newspapers for additional coupon inserts so that you can use a coupon on each additional item you are stocking up on. To get additional coupon purchase the Sunday PD goes on sale for $1.25 at many stores starting on Mondays or get the Sun Newspapers for 75 cents.<\/p>\n

NATURAL GAS<\/strong>
\nStarting in January, the NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) variable rate for natural gas will drop to $4.34 per mcf while the fixed will be $5.95 per mcf. NOPEC is in over 125 communities and offers cheaper natural gas through the consortium. You have to request the variable rate, otherwise you will be on the fixed rate. HOME MORTGAGE RATES RECORD LOWS<\/strong>
\nThe average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage fell to a record 3.91 percent this week, the third time this year that rates have hit new lows. The 3.91 percent rate is the lowest average for long-term fixed mortgages on records dating to the 1950s. The average on the 15-year fixed mortgage was unchanged this week at 3.21 percent. That’s also a record. Look into refinancing! You can save tens of thousands of dollars! Work the closing costs into the loan and you most likely will still pay less than you are and lower the number of years of your loan.
