The U.S. millionaires population expanded by 8% in 2010. The number of U.S. households worth at least $1 million rose to 8.4 million in 2010, compared to 7.8 million the prior year, according to a report by Spectrem Group. In 2008, the millionaire population fell 27%. The number of “ultra high net worth” households, with a net worth of at least $5 million, jumped 8% in 2010 to 1.06 million, compared to 980,000 the prior year. The broader affluent population, meaning households with a net worth of $500,000 or more, also grew in 2010. This population rose by 6% to 13.5 million in 2010, compared to 12.7 million the year before. Households worth at least $100,000 also grew last year, to 36.2 million from 34.6 million. Part of the reason the number of millionaires increased is because the stock market has done well this past year.

Look for a $10 off a $20 purchase coupon in the Sunday PD front page section.

I print internet coupons, but I’d rather just get them in the paper. That way I can also purchase extra papers to get extra sets of coupons. So how much does it cost to print coupons? To do so you need to check out the print yield on your ink/toner cartridge and divide it by the cost of the cartridge. For instance, if the cartridge has a yield of 1,000 pages and the ink cartridge cost $60 it will cost 6 cents to print a page just for the ink/toner. Add in electricity, the cost of the PC/laptop, internet access cost, the time to print, etc. and it adds up. Depending on how much ink you have on the page it may cost you more or less since the ink coverage will vary on what you are printing.

Manufacturers, by having consumers print coupons, are passing the cost to print coupons to the consumer. Most papers can have upwards of 50 coupons, so by printing that many coupons it costs more than the newspaper itself.

Ink Jets are notorious for high costs to print a page because the ink is expensive. They almost cost as much as the printer itself! You can refill the ink for $10 or $15, but that may null the warranty. Plus you can usually only refill it 2 or 3 times. It could mess up your printer too. Many inkjet printers use expensive ink cartridges, but the printer itself is cheap, usually under $100 and that is why a lot of people buy them. Laser is much cheaper per page to print, but cost more for the printer. I prefer laser printers. The one I have (a Samsung 4826) costs me $80 for the cartridge and it has a yield of 5,000 pages. So it costs me 1.6 cents to print a page.

Cost to print on a variety of inkjet printers (the printers cost around $100 or less):
(b&w is black and white print – also known as mono)
HP 4500 – 4.6 cents b&w or 8.1 cents color
Canon MX340 – 5.2 cents b&w or 13 cents color
Epson Stylus NX515 – 3.2 cents b&w or 12.9 cents color
Brother MFC J410W – 5 cents b&w or 14.7 cents color
Lexmark S405 – 4.9 cents b&w or 13.9 cents color
Epson NX420 – 5.7 cents b&w or 14.6 cents color
