TUESDAY MORNING CLOSING ALL STORES
Tuesday Morning will be closing their remaining 200 stores. This after they declared bankruptcy a second time in recent years. They were sold to Hilco Merchant Resources for $32 million. They will liquidate the merchandise. Typically, liquidators will hike prices and then offer minimal discounts to start, so be wary of getting a “deal” early on.
Remaining stores in Ohio closing are in Stow, Highland Heights, Kettering and Cincinnati.
Their closing sale starts at up to 30% off. Gift cards and merchandise return gift cards will be accepted through Saturday, May 13, 2023.
BED BATH & BEYONDS COUPONS
Bed Bath & Beyond with them declaring bankruptcy and closing all their stores will no longer take their famous 20% off coupons. However, other stores will honor them for a limited time.
Big Lots will accept them until May on purchases of $50 or more. The offer is only valid in stores.
The Container Store will take the 20% discount on any single item through May 31st.
Bed Bath & Beyond will stop accepting their gift cards on May 8th. Their Welcome Rewards points will stop being accepted on May 15th.
Their demise started when they reduced offering their 20% off coupon back in 2020. They said they would lower pricing, etc. Sure, sure. Needless to say, getting rid of a coupon that drew most of the customers to the store was a bad move. Their CEO at the time didn’t understand how important the coupon was to customers. Easy lesson. Take ways to save money away from customers = not good.

CAR PRICES DROPPING
Car prices were above MSRP for some time now after supply issues caused demand to go up and supply to go down post-Covid. Recently, that changed. New vehicles’ average transaction price fell below the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the first time in 20 months, according to Kelley Blue Book. The average transaction price of a new vehicle in the U.S. declined 1.1% in March to $48,008 from February’s $48,558. Price haggling is back!
LEGALLY “STEALING”
I stopped at a Rite Aid in the rougher part of town. When I walk into that store I usually get hit with the smell of marijuana. It was no different on this visit. Perhaps its a new cologne in town that smells like it, but I doubt it. There are a lot of characters shopping there, but it doesn’t bother me any. That day was no different.
There was an older gentleman that the cashier was talking to where it seemed like it was turning into a disturbance. His voice sounded like he gargled with Drano nightly so it wasn’t the easiest to understand what he was saying. After he left, the cashier went back to stocking and made some comments that tied it all together.
She said she is disappointed that old people steal. Ahh, so that’s what it was all about. Sadly, I saw that same thing back in the day when I worked retail many decades ago. We had a security person that said you’d be surprised how many old people steal. I guess young shoplifters turn into old shoplifters. Older folks on limited income might decide to steal to make ends meet. There are plenty of other ways to make ends meet, so yeah, it is disappointing when old people steal.
Next, I get in line and a gentleman was purchasing some items. The cashier tells him he has to hit a button to finish his transaction on the keypad. He leaves. She then proceeds to spray sanitizer air spray all around and exclaims how bad he smelled. I had a mask on so it didn’t hit me that bad. I didn’t want to sniff too deeply to see what the smell was about, but I did get a hint of “needs to talk a shower more than once a week” smell.
By now you’re wondering why I even go to that store. It’s convenient, as it is on my way home from work. Sadly, it’s the same store a manager from the Rite Aid in town where I live used to work at and he said that store gets a lot of items stolen. Anytime you see a security guard at the front door you know they have a theft problem. I used to see one at this store all the time, but not lately. You’d think stealing would lessen with the unemployment rate at record lows and minimum wages increasing to $15 or more an hour.
I press the keypad to enter my rewards number and all, wondering if the guy before me left some of his stinky goo on the keypad. I buy around $80 worth of items and pay $18. I also make $33 in rewards back, so I made a profit. Yeah, I got all of it free and didn’t have to steal. I should have told the one gentleman about my class where I teach people how to get items free…legally.
I get back to the car. This time I squirt hand sanitizer a few times on my hands. Probably not a bad idea to just coat my whole self with it and drink a little of it too.
DO YOU WORK HERE?
Lately, as I’m shopping I’ve been getting a lot people ask me if I work at the store. I even have a handful of groceries in my hand and am wearing a coat. I politely tell them no. Then I got the crazy idea that one day I will answer them yes. Why yes, sir. What do you need? I’m going to have fun with this one. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Stay tuned.
