The price wars continues! Gas in Madison is cheap after a Sheetz opened there. You can find gas for $2.85 at most stations in the city, but Giant Eagle’s GetGo gas station has gas at $2.52 per gallon using Advantage Pay. About the same with Sheetz using their rewards card. Gotta love competition!

WHERES THE BEEF?
I’m noticing a slight uptick in restaurant closings. Still a ton of openings. Once a restaurant closes it usually gets filled relatively quick. For instance, after Paladar closed it was quickly announced that Agave & Rye was going to take over the space.
From what I’m hearing it’s still because stores can’t find staffing. John Christ Winery cited not having a winemaker and manager as a reason for closing. With kids going back to school they quit their jobs or cut back hours to focus on their academics. Businesses that are thin on staffing are now struggling to stay open with any staff. Any that don’t pay enough and/or have poor management and working environment will find it tough to keep workers.
I was in evidence of a all that recently. I ordered some burgers at Wendys using a BOGO coupon. When I get to the window the lady starts handing me a drink that I didn’t order that looks like Sprite. She says here, there was a wrong order. Ok. She then gives me the bag with my burger in it. One burger not two. I let them know and they tell me I have to order two burgers to get the one free. I ask her to show me where it says I have to order two on the coupon. One of the workers is giving me eyes like can you believe these clowns. At least one of them gets it.
She says that was what her manager says and then they go get her. The manager says I need to order two total. That’s when the worker fussing with me says’ “Mom!”. You told me they had to order three. Apparently, Mom is the manager. Mom says no, he has to order one to get the other free. That’s is when I get told to pull over to wait for the other burger.
I wait…and wait. The one worker comes over and asks me if I got the other burger I ordered. Yipes. No! She comes back with my second one. During all this I had a problem with their app to get a bacon cheeseburger for 1 cent that they couldn’t help me with. I sure was asking too much from this crew.
It was a mess. I’m sure workers at short-staffed stores are at their limits too. We all have to be more patient now as this might be the new norm.
Stores are ramping up hiring for the holidays, so businesses will be even moreso competing for a limited supply of workers. If places are having a hard time hiring people you have to figure they might not be getting the best workers. They just want bodies…or robots.
PET SUNGLASSES
I was at Aldi and noticed an item that was on clearance. I had to do a double-take because I thought maybe I was reading it wrong. It was pet sunglasses.
My question is what pet is cool with wearing sunglasses. For the most I’d expect them to shake them off after about 3 seconds. Some may have humanistic characteristics and keep them on for longer. Posting your pet with sunglasses is a sure at least 50 Likes Facebook post.
As tempting as the $1.19 clearance price for the sunglasses were I didn’t get them for my cats. I could see trying to put them on them. They would do that thing where they would back up thinking that is a way to get them off.
What’s next, pet jeans or knit caps?! I bet if I searched for them I could find them on sale online. Pet jeans makes some sense because pets are naked, after all.
