Comcast’s is offering a new streaming bundle, called StreamSaver, packaging its Peacock Premium service with Netflix with ads and Apple TV+, for $15 per month for a savings more than 30% for all Xfinity internet and TV customers. StreamSaver can be combined with Comcast’s newest offering “NOW TV”, which includes more than 40 streaming channels, for $30 per month.

Warner Bros Discovery and Walt Disney will announce the pricing this summer of their bundle of Disney+, Hulu and Max streaming services. Pricing will be announced at that time.

With inflation slowing down many stores are now starting to get their prices more in line by decreasing prices. For instance:

* Target announced they are dropping pricing on 5,000 products. Food and beverage prices have already been reduced.

* Wal-Mart announced they are rolling back prices on 7,000 items.

* Aldi announced they are lowering prices on 250 items.

* Amazon Fresh is cutting prices on 4,000 items.

Supply and demand are finally calming down after the Pandemic with some prices settling back into historic norms. Mother Nature is still affecting prices on specific items as it always does each year.

Some other initiatives will be bringing prices down. For instance:

Credit card late fees will decrease from the current average of $32 down to $8.

More than $20 billion in junk fees annually are being removed with new rules going forward. Analysis of a number of major sectors across the economy show that consumers pay $90 billion in junk fees every year, including on live event tickets, internet and cable fees, apartment rentals, banking fees, auto dealer fees, and more. A CEA analysis found fees dripped in throughout the purchasing process after the consumer already made decisions about what to buy, making it difficult to comparison shop. One example is Live Nation being targeted for all their fees they add to the purchase of tickets.

Financial product comparison shopping tools will be prohibited from steering consumers to products based on kickbacks. The CFPB issued a circular stating that companies that provide consumers with comparison shopping tools—say for a credit card, loan, or bank account—are prohibited from steering consumers to products or lenders because they are receiving a kickback.

We stopped at the new Tricky Tortoise Brewing in downtown Willoughby. Sadly, the place was like the last day at Willoughby Brewing. By that I mean it pretty much looked no different than when they locked the doors of the place some years ago. The bathroom stall wall still had rust stains at the bottom. A cork board in the bathroom was all torn up and the floor had open cracks in the tile. They just put up a paper sign above the line of urinals, probably to cover the mess still behind it. The floor in front of the band area was very worn and looked in bad need of replacement. The least they could’ve done is washed and sealed it. The furniture there had all kind of worn spots on it. It looked like what people would throw out for free before trash day. White dust from construction wasn’t washed up. Just sad. The patio area wasn’t touched. Even the door handles to the place were wonky.

They replaced some of the floor in the restaurant area and added an area for food to be placed, but that was all I could tell. Part of them having to do so was because they had some plumbing issues that delayed the opening. I’m disappointed they didn’t put more effort into upgrading the place. They said they upgraded the sound system and replaced all the beer lines and all, but those are things people won’t notice. They needed to put some money into the place, but it looks like they did the bare minimum.

I did try a couple beers and they were good. The bartender said the food was real good, but it was just bar menu items for now.

I found out that their banquet room building was broken into numerous times by vandals. All the plates stored there were broken.

There were lawsuits, closures for failure to pay sales tax, and a bankruptcy involved with when it was Willoughby Brewing. Read more about it here:

The name came about because the owner raised tortoises and turtles.

Word was they had offers from Burntwood and others to buy the place for a good buck, but didn’t pull the trigger.

Red Lobster declared bankruptcy and it’s mostly because of a deal they offered that was just too good. It was their all you can eat shrimp for $20. The company was owned by a Thai firm that supplied the shrimp, so that helped that end of their business, but not for Red Lobster.

Back some months ago I posted about the deal and was surprised how they could offer it at such a low price. It caught up to them. They closed nearly 99 locations after the bankruptcy and announcing they lost $11 million dollars this last quarter and are $1 billion in debt.

I went there once to get it. The food was great, but it took a long while before you got each shrimp order. I love their coconut shrimp and as much as I wanted to eat endless piles of it I also don’t think it’s all that healthy.

There aren’t many casual seafood restaurants, so I think they will survive. They closed a couple on the east side, including one in Beachwood the other year and one many decades ago in Euclid. Ohio has the third largest amount of Red Lobster restaurants by state with 38. The good news was that none of the locations in Ohio closed with the latest announcement. Florida had the most closures with 17.

Summer Kickoff Sale 7228*90

Not as many teens work nowadays as compared to decades past. For instance, in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s the labor participation rate for teens was around 50% to 60%. Now it’s around 37%. It dropped steadily after 2000. Stores that tend to hire teenagers like retail and fast food are having a hard time finding enough workers and that has affected their business and business hours.

Why the change? If you ask me, there was a huge emphasis on kids to excel in school and to participate in sports the past couple decades. Parents wanted their kids to focus on academics and sports leaving extra time for work behind. Parents back when I was growing up tended to raise their kids to be more independent and expected kids to work. It seems that generation in turn developed the exact opposite when they became parents and were more involved with their kids.

Cue in my two cents now about my generation. Like many of my friends and peers I played sports and worked full time and went to school full time when I was a teenager and young adult all the while trying to do my best in school, being valedictorian for my associates and bachelor’s degree. And yes, I walked a mile to school in blizzards with snow piles taller than me. I was sure to fit in some fun time too in the Flats, work parties and other activities. I was even grandfathered into a law change where I could still buy beer at age 18. I worked hard and played hard. It can be done, but times have changed. Back then there were tons of places to go dancing. Stores were open 24 hours. Restaurants, Convenient stores and bars stayed open until midnight or 2:00 am. Not anymore, especially with the Pandemic changing the world.

Could it be parents want to shelter their kids from doing too much? Each generation seems to over-correct their experiences growing up just as mine did. For instance, the WWII generation parents developed the hippies and peace generation kids. What will the smartphone/Covid generation develop?
