AIR TRAN
Southwest is buying AirTran. The Akron/Canton airport has a large Air Tran presence. With Southwest taking over it will make for some more competition with Cleveland Hopkins airport. Airtran has hubs in Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Orlando. They don’t overlap too many markets.
The best thing about the merger is that Southwest officials say they plan to drop AirTran’s charges for checked bags. Right now, two bags cost $45. Also, Southwest also doesn’t charge a fee for itinerary changes, while AirTran charges $75.
HUNTINGTON BANK
They will open 103 branches in Giant Eagle stores in Ohio. Huntington became the first major bank to offer 24 hours ffor customers to cover overdrafts. They will replace existing banks that are in stores when their lease expires.

A LITTLE STORY
I was making ice cream with my pet monkey. I had my bike turned upside down on the driveway. And in order to make ice cream I had to crank the pedals around with my hands. Don’t ask me how it worked, but I made all kinds of ice cream…butter pecan, mint chocolate chip, and even a little sherbet.
I was able to make sherbet by turning the chain in reverse. Nothing but mostly natural ingredients. I did add some sodium sulfite as a preservative though. I had to use some soy lecithin as an emulsifier too.
After we made our ice cream and sherbet we sold it door to door around the neighborhood. Sales were brisk. I partly think it was because I threw in some free plastic spoons I got from McDonalds with each purchase. And as a bonus I told them that my pet Monkey would lick up any melted ice cream off the floor. That seemed to clinch every sale. Everyone wants a clean floor. One bonus was huge, but two was just way over the top.
It’s like any service. You have to exceed the customers expectations. Even in relationships. If you do the minimal to keep the relationship going then that is what you’ll get back, the minimal. I worked hard to get that ice cream just right and my pet monkey helped. We both each held a bike pedal and churned like there was no tomorrow. A couple times I wailed around my pet monkey in circles while it held on for dear life because it lost it’s rhythm holding it’s pedal. He sure can chirp pretty loud.
And just working hard sometimes isn’t enough though. I had to make it special. Not everyone likes vanilla ice cream. So I added stuff like pecans and chocolate chips or maybe they were acorns and chipmunk teeth. They sure looked like pecans and chocolate chips. But it’s the thought that counts.
It’s like buying the discount bouquet of assorted flowers at Marcs for that someone special. Perhaps the more expensive dozen roses might seem to have more meaning, but I thought the discount one meant just the same and I liked the variety in it. Sometimes you have to spice it up with some variety like a carnation assortment or acorns in your ice cream and balance it with some soy lecithin.
