PD FOOD PRICE STORY
The PD did a story on rising food prices. They quoted me in the story. I’ve noticed how regular prices have jumped. Makes all the more reason to start couponing. The key is to wait for a sale and when you have a coupon for the item. Doesn’t work at stores that don’t have sales like Wal-Mart and Marcs that have everyday low prices.

A LITTLE STORY
I was going through some stuff that I had in the attic. I found a tote full of some of my clothes that I wore way back when. I found some old softball shirts from when I was a kid. I had some fine cordoroys and parachute pants. I kept them for sentimental reasons or for the slight chance that I might wear them for Halloween. There was no way I was going to fit into any of the clothes I found, but I decided I saved it for a reason and by gosh I was going to get more mileage out of it by wearing them again.
My first outfit I put on was my old softball shirt that I sported when I was nine or ten. I put on some parachute pants that probably fit my arm better than my waist. I was determined to make it all fit. I slathered a good coat of Crisco on me so that the pants would slide on easier. A few rips here and there and I was able to get everything on. Some fruit flies apparently liked the smell of the Crisco as they were all over me. I had to keep swatting at them.
I found an old children’s Browns knit cap that fit the very top of my head more like a beret since I couldn’t slide it onto my head. A ratty pair of mittens finished off my ensemble. The colors were a mess. The shirt was red, the pants were multi-colored and the mittens were blue and yellow. I looked like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show.
There was no sense in just taking it back off, so I decided to do my shopping with it on. I had gotten a sunburn the day before so I had horrible tan or I should say burn lines all over me. My lips were chapped so I put on some Blistex. But dangit I ended up using some super glue that I thought was Blistex. I smeared it off as best I could but some lint was now caked on my lip and I could barely open my mouth to talk.
Before I left to go I noticed that there was some beer left in a bottle that was nearly finished. I don’t like leaving stuff laying around half finished so I drank the rest.
The first store I stopped at I got plenty of stares. I would bark out of the unglued portion of my mouth at anyone that stared too long by snapping at them by saying “why don’t you just take a picture if you’re gonna stare at me”. That sounded lame, so I told the next person “You’re eyes tell me you’d like an Olan Mills wallet sized picture of me in your wallet!”. That still didn’t sound right so I stopped in the aisle and wrote down what I wanted to say next. I saw someone glance over at me and I pounced on them and I read to them with wagging pointed finger and said “you are no good for looking at me as I wear something that is special only to me”. That I’m sure rattled their core.
I picked up some Tide at the bottom of one shelf and my pants ripped some more. It was getting breezy. Good thing I wore my clean underwear. Then again it was probably a pair I should have retired as there maybe was a stain or two that no longer washed clean. Thems my tiger underwear.
I rambled up to the register and fumbled around for my loyalty card. Some tissues got caught on the keys and in my haste I just handed the whole thing over. I was embarrassed that the cashier had to handle my keys with some tissue stuck on them. And of course, it was the blue tissue paper and not the normal white tissues.
I had a cold so I was coughing a lot. One good cough produced a peanut that I think was lodged near my wisdom tooth. It bounced off the counter and glanced off her smock and gently rolled down into he pocket. I’m sure she appreciated that free snack for later. I told her I was so soggy. I meant to say sorry, but I think the beer was kicking in and the glue didn’t help either.
I then thought that maybe I should have chucked all that old clothes off to Goodwill, but I wanted to remember days gone past. Was it good for me to keep that stuff for the memories or should I have just donated it. I peeled off the clothes and thought about for awhile. Who am I kidding, I just created memories with memories. Another big night writing all this down in my diary of which I keep next to my old collection of Highlights magazines.

DISCOUNTED NEWSPAPERS
Find discounted newspaper subscriptions in your area or for nationwide papers on this site. Some can be delivered to your homes much cheaper than going to the store and getting them, especially with the price of gas. I get the Lake County News-Herald and Plain Dealer every day of the week. I love reading the paper. But the Family Circus comic drives me batty with their horrible puns.
Tip – For extra coupons you can sometimes get the Sunday paper on Monday at a discount, usually $1.25 instead of $2 for the PD. Marcs has the Sunday PD on sale on Sundays for $1.25 for the month of May (also 50 cents for the daily instead of 75 cents).
