BRINGBACKDOUBLES.COM
Remember when Giant Eagle tried to do away with doubles some years back and we put up a site to help convince them to bring them back and they did. Well, we are bringing back the site. The reason is Kroger in Houston decided to get rid of doubles. That could have a ripple effect as Kroger may decide to eliminate doubles in other markets too with other stores to follow. Plus Kroger and other stores have been changing their coupon policies for the worse, many feel because of the Extreme Couponing show. Some are limiting the number of like coupons amongst other customer-unfriendly coupon policies.
So if you are a Kroger shopper, please give your 2 cents on the page. Locally, the Perrysburg Kroger no longer does $1 and less super doubles.
An interesting twist in this is that Wal-Mart is testing double coupons in certain markets including their Madison, OH store. It would be great if they decided to double at all stores. Good to see them looking into it as many shoppers need to save more not less. Kroger needs to understand how shoppers would flock to Wal-mart and other stores that double because people are hurting financially with the economy sputtering and the lack of good jobs.

GARBAGE PICKING
My friend told me about how someone came by his house and stopped the car picked an umbrella out of their garbage said hello and then took off in broad daylight. He was taken aback by the exchange.
Garbage picking can be illegal in some cities. That includes dumpster diving. If someone gets hurt while in your garbage can that can lead to some issues. Perhaps a no trespassing or stay out of my garbage can sign will take care of that.
I’m all for recycling, but if I was the garbage picker I’d be nervous about the history of whatever I picked up. If it was a couch maybe it was used for birthing opossums. Or the umbrella could have been used as a maggot squisher and outlived its usefulness. That’s the chance they take I guess. Just like a new date, sometimes you want to know everything about them but maybe finding out too much might turn you off.
In these times they might take them items to a flea market or garage sale. God bless them if that makes them a buck.
I told my friend he could make it so he gets something out of it. I say he hides in a garbage can ala the Cookie Monster and holds onto something delicious to a garbage picker like a Farah Fawcett poster or slightly rusty pair of tongs. Stick it out just enough for them to see what it is and maybe wiggle it a little to attract their attention like a whirligig lure on a fishing line. As soon as they try to take it burst out of the garbage can like Freddy Kruegger and chase them down the street. With that thought I think I would like to sit on their porch and watch this all go down.
However, they can still exchange pleasantries and now everyone is happy. The earth and it’s people working things out. Those happy thoughts will make me sleep better.

KING NUT
Check your Our Town coupon book for BOGO coupons for King Nut. They had huge bags (like the popcorn bags) of peanuts for around $11 or so. They’re meant to be pet or bird feed. I asked if a human can eat it and they said better not since it’s stuff that was on the floor usually. Yep, I’m not much for eating stuff that comes off the floor even after blowing off the germs.

I was in the Solon area and stopped at the Stouffers outlet store. They had TV dinners and food trays and some misc items there. I found a Lean Cuisine chicken dinner entree bag for $1.99 which is the best deal I found. The best deals for the TV dinners were for cases of food where you could get them for less than $2. They had some big trays of potatoes and other varities reduced to $5.99. Some individual TV dinners were marked an additional 20% off making them just under $2. Not the best deal, but much better than the regular price at grocery stores. The deals change there all the time so it’s worth checking them out to see what they have.
