DAILY DEALS
Yelp and Facebook have decided to get out of the daily deal offerings. Groupon obviously has the market on daily deals, but there are many more out there. Too many to the point many businesses are overwhelmed. Some businesses are pushing back as the deals are not always good for their business. They get a rush of customers causing service to go down and many of these customers are not repeat customers that come in without a coupon. Then again they do get business.

DAKS
About twice a year I make a pilgrimage to Daks in Wickliffe and usually with my one friend that doesn’t freak out when I offer it up to go there. It’s a hole in the wall place that is like no other. If you’ve been there you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s more about the clientele rather than the place itself although I do love the faux brick wallpaper. The people that frequent the place I’m sure are fine human beings, but they may not realize how entertaining they are to people watch. It’s like a people zoo there. Oh, look at that one it has such large cankles with a unique pattern I believe to be a tattoo of some sort or perhaps it’s bruises from their last skirmish. My how fleet of foot she is on the dance floor. I’m not sure, but I think it’s a mating dance.

This past time we went we saw something that I haven’t seen there in the past. It was a couple that look like they just stepped out of their Class of ’72 yearbook. They were vintage. I mean all I had to hear was Crimson and Clover and it would take me back to that era. Instead all I heard was the thumping sound of New Jack Swing and watching them dance like stiff robots rocking back and forth and clicking their heals. Yes, no other movement except the same move no matter what song was playing. Although I did see the guy move his arms some. Or perhaps he was just wiping some perspiration from his brow.

DJ Baldy wasn’t there. He’s been there the 20 or so years I’ve been patronizing them. Not sure what happened to him. The one guy that gets the empty bottles, Mr Grabby, was there.

Strawberry girl, the one gal that asked me to dance the last time I was there was not in attendance. I missed her red outfit with a green necklace, loose-fitting white tube socks, and black tennis shoes. Yep, she really was wearing all that. I politely declined her request to dance stating I was married (whew!) and offered up my friend who was single to cut a rug on the dance floor. I’m a good friend like that. They made a nice couple.

Many folks looked like they’ve been a police lineup before. There were almost as many people outside of the place as in because they were outside smoking away. The conversations there are interesting in themselves. Braggarts and drunkards the most of them.

There was a bachelorette party there. A lady that was maybe 60 was having one. I’m not sure why she picked Daks for her bachelorette party. But maybe she was harking back to a time just like I was remembering all the good times there.

No fights that night or even any drama. Usually there is something going on that draws some attention. At least some gals could have fought over some guy or perhaps a fight could have ensued because of some cross-up on correct gang signs. It’s like watching a third base coach in baseball touching all kinds of parts of his body to let the runner know what to do. Same goes for gang signals or even Masonic Temple secret handshakes. At Daks you will see all of this.

One guy that stood out looked like a CEO of a company. He was playing pool. Again, nothing makes sense in that place. The place is patronized by what looks to be every socio-economic group. People are probably wondering what I’m doing there too. Look at that guy. I bet he cuts out lots of coupons.

WILLOUGHBY FARMERS MARKET
I went to the Willoughby Farmers Market this past Saturday. I’ve been meaning to go all summer. I found some good deals. A pound of strawberries were $1. A huge eggplant was $1. I got 8 pounds of sweet potatoes for $3. A good amount of Amish were there selling their produce. There were also some flea market like items people were selling. Very busy. Downtown Willoughby is very cool too. Stop on by on your way to Daks.
