CHANGE YOUR SHOPPING HABITS IN 2012
The new year is a great time to change bad habits, shopping habits included. Try these on for size:

– Avoid going to the same stores out of convenience. Shop around and see if other stores offer better deals.

– Don’t let a bad experience or two keep you from returning to a store that may lower your grocery bill.

– Being in debt means sacrificing what you want to get out of debt. Just think of how great it will feel to get out of debt to keep you from making bad decisions. Think of it as a financial diet.

– Don’t be brand loyal. Do a blind taste test to see if you really can differentiate different brands including store brands. You may be surprised that you prefer a product you thought you didn’t like.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX
I like to do unconvential things because it helps me think outside the box and becoming too rigid with my thoughts and actions. For instance, when I order fast food at the drivethru I sing out my order…alphabetically. Then when I pick up the food I wear any variety of Halloween mask that happens to be in my car. The facial expressions of the cashiers are priceless.

Many people think and act the same as their parents since that is the behavior they learned. As they say the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree. It doesn’t always follow that line of thinking since I’m not sure where I get the above mentioned action. I’ve never seen anyone else do it. Maybe watching just channels 3, 5, and 8 in my younger days left me with plenty of time to let my imagination run.

I noticed something that brought this thinking outside the box out in the open. I was listening to a radio show and the caller must have held the phone too close to his head because it beeped from pressing the numbers with his noggin or maybe his nose or chin. I don’t know about you, but that drives me up a wall. Blah, blah, blah, beeep, blah, blah, beeep. Their IQ drops in half with every beep.

Everyone knows someone that always does it. It’s not like they do it once and it never happens again. Maybe when people try to iron clothes with the phone cradled in their ear and shoulder while smoking a cigarette it causes them to press to hard on it. A Bluetooth would help in these situations or a speakerphone. Maybe these people should go to phone school and learn not to press so hard. Give that phone some breathing room.

Even though the phone thing is petty I like to make things right in this world, so I invented a solution to this problem. It’s crude but the phone has toothpicks taped to the side of it. If someone tries jamming it too hard to their face it will painfully jab their face. I’ll have to see if Ronco will go for my invention.

MY 2012 PREDICTIONS
10) Scientists will create a device that stops cellphones from beeping when pressed up to your head too hard.
9) I will get ringworm from eating cereal that is one week expired.
8) Coupons will be redeemed telepathically.
7) Bigfoot will be caught smelling his own farts.
6) People will get pre-tested to see who gets their luggage quickest and they will be placed in front of the plane. The slower people at the back fo the plane will be prodded by a marine seargent to move faster.
5) Ohio will be renamed Rhodesia.
4) A Supreme Court decision will allow Silly Rabbits to eat Trix.
3) Anyone that doesn’t fully sneeze will now get arrested. No more sneeze concussions to quiet their sneeze.
2) Elvis will be found working as a short order cook at Arthur Treachers.
1) More families will get their dinners through Hillbilly handfishin’.

Kitchen Remodeling by Sears

CLOSING
Sears/Kmart – They plan to close 100 to 120 Kmart or Sears stores. Many more Kmarts are closing. Most stores update their look every so many years and I think that has been one of the issues with Kmart as they haven’t invested in updating their stores. Many of the stores look like an old Woolworths. Dated and it’s hard to break that image. Kmart isn’t known for quality even though they have had big names endorse some of their lines from Kathy Ireland and Martha Stewart. Now they have Gordon Ramsey, the Kardashians, and Selena Gomez lines. Maybe a new name would have helped like Blue Light.

Sears bought a clunker in Kmart. Trying to combine the two didn’t make sense since Sears is known as a hardware store. They shoulda done something more exciting with their blue light specials. They could’ve had a world class sprinter put the blue light on their head and you had to catch him to get the special. Now that I would like to see.

Sears recently announced that they are keeping their headquarters in Illinois. So much for that state giving such a huge break of $150 million. The tax break requires the retailer to retain 4,250 jobs at its headquarters, now the site for 6,100 workers. That makes no sense as giving them such a huge break should have made them hire more workers. Ohio offered $400 million for them to move their headquarters to Ohio. Almost half a billion! About $65,000 per job. Poaching jobs will eventually hurt the cities or states that need to collect taxes. A recent study the Ohio Attorney General found that only 48% of firms that received grants, tax credits or other rewards didn’t meet their goals for job retention, job creation, or other measures.

Florida has the most closings at 11. Georgia, Michigan and Ohio are next with 6 closures. Minnesota, North Carolina, and Tennessee were next with 4. Sears/Kmart now has 3,560 stores. Typically their stores employ between 40 and 80 employees.
