Great deals this week, mostly because of double coupons. Any coupon 99 cents and less will double at Giant Eagle – 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. It automatically comes off.
Note: if a UPC starts with a 5 it will double (as long as it is 99 cents and less). If the UPC starts with a 9 it won’t double. Most of those coupons state the coupon won’t double. The red blinkie machine coupons usually start with a 9.

CLEVELAND INDIANS
Baseball is here! I can smell baseball in the air…or it could be that hot dog package that slipped out of a grocery bag from last year. Being a huge Indians fan, here’s hoping the Indians win the World Series. Go Tribe!
Before the game check out the plenty of happy hour deals around town at http://www.gotime.com. Beer prices are cuckoo in the stadium, so better to get your fill before the game.
Many vendors sell peanuts and merchandise at much lower prices than in the park.
Try Marcs for Indians merchandise on the cheap. That is usually where I buy mine.
Below are some deals for Indians tics:
The Entertainment book has a BOGO lower reserved or mezzanine ticket for and Indians game. There a BOGO coupons for the Lake County Captains too.
At Discount Drug Mart you can get discounted tickets with their 10 pack promotion.
10 Bleacher/Upper Deck Seats for $99.
10 All-you-can-eat seats for $279…no, it’s not the seats you can eat for $279, but real food.
Find deals online on the Indians site including the ones below at http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/cle/ticketing/ticket_specials.jsp
Grand Slam 4 Pack
Get 4 tickets (select seating), 4 hot dogs/slices of pizza, 4 Pepsi products, 4 hats and a parking pass for just $96.
Lunch and 3 Innings
Purchase a $15 ticket for a weekday afternoon game and get $10 worth of value added to your ticket to grab lunch.
Fans will have an all-you-can-eat option in select Upper Deck locations once again in 2012 featuring hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, nachos and soft drinks for only $32.
20% off when you purchase Tickets Plus+! Spend $8 and get $10 of food and merchandise.
The Indians have some great giveaways from Jerseys to Bobbleheads (shown below). Wouldn’t it be neat if on Fireworks night they allow the first handful of fans to light the fireworks whenever they so choose to light them off. For instance, if the other team’s player is stealing second or sittng on a two-strike count they should be able to light off some M80s or lob a Roman Candle at them. Now that’s a home team advantage.

DOUBLE COUPONS
Stores that double have better deals than stores that don’t. Part of the reason is because many stores that don’t double like Wal-Mart and Marcs have everyday low prices, but they never have items that go on sale. The price is what it is. Granted the prices go up and down over time, but that is not because it goes on sale. The key is to only buy items at stores that double when they are on sale, escpecially when the item is at least 50% off. When you do that you will save over 70% typically when the item is on sale. Most of the items above in the Giant Eagle sale are over 70% off with the doubling. Try to do that consistently at a store that doesn’t double…doesn’t happen.
One thing that people have a hard time doing is buying items that aren’t on sale while shopping for all the great deals. They key is to turn off that part of your brain that wants to make impulse purchases. A whiffle ball bat to the head works sometimes in those situations.
Krogers has eliminated doubles in Texas. Their Ralph’s stores are also ending them starting April 1. Those stores are located in California. The rumor is that Kroger plans to stop doubling at all their stores. If they stop, then the competition might also stop. Then again, stores like Wal-Mart test marketed doubles and may decide to implement them at that time, striking a blow to Kroger and any store that decides to do away with them and their disgruntled customers.
I love the fact that Giant Eagle listened to customers when we protested that they eliminated doubles back some years back and they decided to bring back doubles. Competition is tight and the last thing a store wants to do is to irk its customers. Once people start shopping elsewhere it’s hard to get them back.
Stores will also lower their sales volume if couponers stop shopping there. Many double couponers buy extras to donate to charities. Lower sales volumes mean lower purchasing power for the stores.
No thanks to the Extreme Couponing show, many stores have tightened their coupon policies. Amazingly, Kroger was the featured store in most all of the shopping trips on the show. And now here they are getting rid of doubles. Plus they stopped allowing shoppers to stack an e-coupon along with a manufacturer’s coupon after the show first aired.
When I was going to do the show, Krogers wouldn’t allow me to go to the Perrysburg store near Toledo that doubled $1 and less coupons, but they were ok with me going to the Port Clinton or Sandusky store that only doubled 50 cents and less coupons. Obviously something was up. Sure enough, the Perrysburg store a month or two late stopped the $1 doubling. I figured as much since they didn’t want me there with the thoughts that they were changing the policy there. Giant Eagle also didn’t allow us to film there. And then Dave’s Supermarket was the next option.
Needless to say, after some back and forth I didn’t do the show partly because of the issues I saw coming and since they didn’t put in writing that they would show that I donate my stock. Now the show features people donating all the time. I’m sure they realized they had to do so since nobody would do the show. The felt the heat to show it too. They also didn’t want to film me doing a class. Another red flag that showed they were more about getting ratings rather than doing couponers right.
A couple articles have been written about double coupons recently and Krogers/Ralphs decision to eliminate them. We resurected the http://www.bringbackdoubles.com site for the Krogers shoppers losing doubles. For those of you Krogers shoppers and their affiliated stores, I recommend posting on the site and the BringBackDoubles Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Bringbackdoubles
Let them know you want your doubles and how it negatively effects your family and charities you donate to. They need to hear it from us consumers before they’ll react.

It doesn’t take much for the Hulk to get honked off. And once he calms down he now will have to purchase a new set of clothes to wear.
TOP TEN THINGS THAT HONK ME OFF
10) Indecisive squirrels crossing the street.
9) People constantly using “you know what I mean” after every sentence, mostly because it forces me to answer yes or no every time they say it.
8) Congress’ franking privileges.
7 1/2) Having to open a dirty bathroom door after just washing my hands and not being able to use a paper towel to open the door since the garbage can is across the room.
7) Shaking someone’s still wet hand after they’ve left the bathroom.
6) Deep wounds from a paper cut.
5) Songs that remain #1 way too long on the Billboard Top 100.
4) Burnt popcorn.
3) Little Billy from the Family Circus comic and his horrible puns.
2.8) Settling down to eat my TV dinner when I’m real hungry only to find out the center is ice-cream cold.
2.3) Meat with stubborn veins and ligaments in them.
2.1) People that stand uncomfortably close to me in line.
1) Aggressive clapping when it’s unwarranted at puppet shows.
GETTING HONKED OFF
Did someone ever piss you off? Yep, we’ve all been upset with someone. Did you ever tell them what got you upset? Well, uhhhh. Most people don’t like to confront people about an issue since they know they may not like the response or they aren’t sure they can control their response without blowing up. It’s like that bag of popcorn. All that steam builds up and if you pull it out of the microwave at the right time you have yourself a wonderfull smelling bag of popcorn. If you leave it in too long, it smells like yuck. You end up having to throw it out. The same thing happens in relationships. If you check to see how things are going you will find out more before the person builds up enough anger that they blow up. It always delicate to bring up sensitive issues, but it’s not fair to the other person if you don’t voice your concerns. They have no way of fixing it otherwise or even understanding what you are feeling.
If you let people know what is bothering you then you will avoid all those times when you say nothing, but assuredly they know something is wrong. Your body language and lack of communication or facial gestures say it all, so they already know something is up. That stink face is a pure giveaway. When you let them know the issue before it gets to that stage it always seems to work better. The shoe is on your foot until you let your feeling be known. Sometimes people don’t realize how they are coming across. Don’t you want to know rather than being left in the dark? How can you fix it otherwise!
It’s best to forgive than to hold grudges too. Be the bigger person. Besides after 52 times not forgiving someone your spleen will explode. Don’t be tempted and test that out. Spleen explosions are painful and messy.
Always give someone the benefit of the doubt too. Never accuse them before finding out the facts. Let them know how you feel without making accusations. Otherwise you will put them on the defensive. Once they are on the defensive it is hard to get your point across without a verbal battle. Just watch any reality show like the Basketball Wives or Housewives of Orange County and you’ll see what I mean. Now let me get some popcorn while I watch them explode.
