EXTREME COUPONING
The Extreme Couponing producer is in touch with me about being on one of their next episodes on The Learning Channel (TLC). Giant Eagle told them no to filming in their stores. I could go to other stores that double that are in the area like Daves Market, Sparkle, or Buehlers but the weekly sales there are very limited and most of their pricing is too high for me to get savings of 85% off and more. I can save that much at Giant Eagle if I hone in on the best deals. Dave’s said they would allow the cameras in, but the show really wants some huge savings.
The other option is Kroger. The one in Perrysburg near Toledo. They double coupons of $1 and less, so I can do some damage there. Waiting to hear whether they will allow the cameras in there. Anything can change too on my side and theirs so we’ll see what happens.

COUPONS IN THE MAIL?
Did you catch the story about a mailman in New York that stole 7,000 JC Penney coupons that he was to deliver? Instead he sold them on eBay. He was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail and charged with grand larceny. My guess is he stole the $10 off a purchase of $10 or more coupons. So when I post some of these deals and you wonder why you never got them in the mail – that could be why.
Some mail carriers in their haste to deliver the mail might not deliver the ads that contain the coupons. If you live in an apartment, they may not get delivered to every unit. Some people might even take them if they are out in the open.
In a different way Red Plum isn’t getting coupons to people that want them. When Red Plum decided to take their coupons out of many Sunday papers and instead mail them to homes they brought to the forefront the issue of what to do when you don’t get them delivered in the mail. They have an opt-in method for people that want to get them, but I’ve known a handful of people that opted in only to still not get them mailed to their house, so they get no Red Plum coupons in their paper or mail. There is no recourse with Red Plum on the issue. They won’t send you a set if you don’t get one delivered. A group of us put together a site called bringbackthecoupons.com to bring notice to the issue. A lot of people need or want more than one set of inserts too. I hope Red Plum realizes that they need to have an option for people to get their coupons. Plus some papers that have their inserts in them have a whittled down set. What other industry doesn’t allow people to get the product they want? I’d probably have an easier time getting enriched uranium.
FAUX PAUX
Did you ever have one of those moments when you think to yourself, I wish I didn’t do that. I had one of those recently. We were at a dinner at a fine restaurant recently and I was wearing my grapefruit husk cap. Instead of taking it off I forget that I had it on and there it was on my noggin for the whole dinner. I was so embarrassed. I sulked out of the restaurant hoping nobody noticed that I rudely wore it all through dinner. I could see getting a head start and putting it back on for dessert since we would be leaving soon, but not for the whole dinner. Oh inglorious faux paux. Sometimes I am just not right. I’ll chalk it up as poor manners brought on by sleep deprivation and stress. My mind was on kittens dancing in a meadow or something like that.
Now I will need to try and forget that image of me scarfing down some beef pot roast while I wore my cap. It won’t be easy. I’m sure I will think about it time and time again as if by doing so I can change what happened. It may soften the blow though if I just tell myself at least I didn’t cough with food in my mouth like the person that sat next to us. One of their good hacking fits did net me one free morsel of steak that landed on my plate….or maybe it was Welsh rarebit. Either way it tasted rather delicious.
EGYPT CRISIS
Nearly half of Egypt’s 80 million people live under or just above the poverty line set by the World Bank at $2 a day…and you thought you had it bad. Do you think they have a minimum wage there? The protests were said to come about because of the poor felt they were being exploited while there was an elite class that was getting richer. Sounds a bit familiar… What’s scary is that this style of plutocracy can be found elsewhere and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see other nations come to blows internally because of it. OPEN SKIES
The U.S. and Croatia signed an Open Skies treaty that will open travel between each other. Look for more flights between the two countries that will lower the cost of flights between the two. Many other countries have signed the Open Skies agreement with the U.S. for the better.
CREDIT CARD DEBT
Is your city rated the highest for credit card debt? Equifax did a study and found the cities that had the worst credit card debt. Ohio had a couple in the top ten. Number 2 was Canton/Massillon with and average of $7,050 of credit card debt per household. Number 8 was Youngstown/Warren/Boardman. Number 1 was Wilmington, NC. Three other cities in North Carolina were in the top ten.
Did you know that when you pay just the minimum on credit card debt you are pretty much paying double on everything you are buying. Pay off those credit cards as best you can. You may have to sacrifice, but you’ll be relieved when you get it down to zero.
