So how is your summer garden growing? Mine, not so hot. There are too many trees in my yard so I don’t get enough sun for anything to grow that needs a lot of sun. I should think of growing mushrooms and zombies instead of tomatoes.
I did get some raspberries and blueberries minus any snagged by one of those loud bluejays. I have netting up to keep them away, but they figure out how to get around some of the open spots. Sneaky little beasts.

SUNDAY NEWSPAPERS
Have you read about all the Sunday papers being stolen from Newspaper vending machines? Unscrupulous couponers are taking extra papers so that they can get more inserts. Some newpapers have noticed an increase since the Extreme Couponing show. Some people have been arrested. The cost of having to pay for the crime, the anxiety, and the embarrassment should be enough to keep people from doing it. Better to just buy the extra papers as many stores sell them at a discount.
Many couponers get extra sets of coupons by purchasing additional Sunday newspapers. I recommend getting extra Sunday papers on Monday at many stores like CVS, Discount Drug Mart, Giant Eagle, Speedway and others that sell their leftovers for cheaper, usually $1.25. The Sun newspaper usually has the same inserts as the PD, but that paper cost only 75 cents or less at stores like Marcs that discount them. Cities across the U.S. have newspapers sold for cheaper this way. Many stores also sell the Sunday paper on Sunday for cheaper too.
The PD doesn’t carry Red Plum coupons, but the Akron Beacon Journal does. Red Plum says that the PD doesn’t reach their determined minimum of market share so they mail them to homes in the Cleveland area. Same rule goes for other papers in some other cities.
I’m hoping Red Plum changes their mind as getting extra inserts is not easy. It hurts families that rely on coupons. And printing coupons from the internet isn’t an option for people that can’t afford a PC, printer, paper, and ink.
All coupon inserts are not created equal. The Smart Source inserts in the ABJ and News-Herald and the Red Plum inserts mailed in the Akron area are smaller than what you’d find in the Plain Dealer. Coupons from inserts you’ll find in Portland, Maine could be different than coupons in Portland, Oregon or Cleveland. Some manufacturers target a certain market or markets with their coupons and not others.
Even on Coupons.com when you enter in your area code you could get more or less coupons than other zip codes. For instance, the Beverly Hills zip code 90210 tended to get more coupons.
Home delivered papers sometimes carry more coupons than the ones at the stores too and the cost to suscribe annually is always discounted.
