Many businesses are offering great deals on gift card purchases. For instance, buy $100 worth of gift cards at Sushi Rock, get $20 bonus gift cards. Just be careful that the business has no signs of closing. Once they go bankrupt or close, most times you are left with worthless gift cards.

On you can purchase gift cards at a discount up to 25% off retail prices. You can also custom design the card.

Did you notice how gas was around $3.25 this week while a barrel of gas was around $95 or more. Earlier this year a barrel of gas was that same price, but we were getting charged around $3.75 for a gallon of gas. Libya should start pumping more oil, so the price should go down. I just hope these oil companies aren’t playing games. Too many people need every dollar they earn for any to add to already record billions in profits for oil companies.

Most people have heard of flash mobs, but these folks do cash mobs. They find a local independent store that gives back to the community and they show up as a group to spend up to $20 (or more) at the store. Then they go to a local drinking establishment within walking distance. Perhaps they can also add a dance routine to make for an even more interesting experience.
Check it out at:

Wal-Mart didn’t do so hot on their latest earnings release. Apparently they absorbed the price increased instead of passing it onto the shoppers. In turn they are looking for more givebacks from their vendors. I don’t see that working out to well since vendors have been squeezed too.

Wal-Mart earned $3.34 billion, or 97 cents per share, compared with $3.44 billion, or 95 cents per share, a year earlier. The company had forecast a profit of 95 cents to $1.00 per share. Analysts on average expected 98 cents, according to Thomson Reuters. On the plus side, net sales rose 8.2 percent to $109.5 billion.

Thanksgiving is a time when Pilgrims and Indians sit down at a big table in the woods and eat corn, turkey, and Ocean Spray cranberry from a can. It is also a time to give thanks. What am I thankful for? There are many things. For one I am thankful that Giant Eagle doubles coupons. I am also thankful for the rebates and UP rewards at Rite Aid, the Extrabucks deals at CVS, and Register Rewards at Walgreens. I’m sure the Pilgrims and Indians would agree too. After all, without these deals they might not be able to afford their teepee or muskets.

The cheapest I’ve seen turkeys on sale for in the area is 69 cents/lb. If you get or print an ad from the Columbus area or other nearby area you may be able to get them to price match it. I did that a few times before and it works. Columbus had them at 59 cents/lb. There is more competition there so their turkeys are cheaper.

A better deals is to use the $5 off $20 purchase Sav-A-Lot coupon from the Our Town book. There are five of the coupons in each book (essentially paying for the book). I used it to purchase a ham. It can be used for the turkey too.

Jennie O grade A turkeys – 49 cents/lb with $25 purchase at KMart. Limit 1

10) The lemony freshness of Pledge.
9) Productive sneezes.
8) Exact change.
7) Having friends with easy names, except one named Attila.
6) Open parking spots close to the store without carts angled into them.
5) People who give a hearty greeting of good morning and not a mumbling one or not one in return even though they looked right at me.
4) Having no attached parasites, tapeworms, ringworms or leeches.
3) Unbruised and scuff-free bananas.
2) No ring around the collar.
1) Automatic toilets that don’t flush and leave sprinkles on the toilet seat just before I get seated.

It’s that time of year again. Black Friday will be here before you know it. Time to do some calisthenics and jumping jacks and a few squat thrusts to prepare for the running of the shoppers. Work them pointy elbows so that you get the prized deals before another shopper does. If you need to clear an area of shoppers so that you can get the last few items left of a super deal…eat plenty of beans before embarking on your trip and toss out a fart bomb as necessary to clear people from grabbing your goods. Bring a clothespin for your nose as others may be heeding my tips.

Some deals are no better than what you find during the year. Some stores have better deals this year and some don’t. Ace, Staples, and Officemax aren’t as good. CVS is good. Check out their ads ahead of time on these sites:,

Plot your route from store to store to decrease wasted time which may cause you not to find the items in stock. Note that most stores have a very minimal stock of their best deals, sometimes as little as 2 items in stock per store. Try to find the minimally stocked items online on their web-site. Be sure to bring the sales ads in case a store will price match another one that day.

If you go early-bird shopping, check to see where the item is in the store the day before the sale so that you can get to it quickly. Relocate it to another part of the store to increase your chances of getting it the next day.

Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving when on-line ordering peaks, promotes on-line shopping with special on-line deals. Find the deals on
