I found some great deals on clothes at Gabriel Brothers. I got a dress shirt for $3, a pair of jeans for $6.99, and a polo collared shirt for $2.99. Some clothes they sell there are irregular and have holes in them or stains, so be sure to check them before you purchase them. Then again, it seems like the style now is to wear clothes in that condition. Or you might have to grow a tail or extra limb to fit into the clothes.

Check out this clip with Lee Jordan interviewing me about this weeks deals – you get to see my snazzy outfit I got for about $10 – interestingly, our clothes match in color:

I was in line at Giant Eagle and I handed over my coupons to the cashier. There was an elderly lady behind me. She crowed about how the cashier and I should’ve told her that I had coupons. Here we go I thought. While she’s crabbing about it, the cashier was just about done with all my coupons. A couple didn’t go through right so he had to call a Supervisor. That irked her more and she berates the cashier. The cashier says that she could’ve gone in the next line where there was no waiting at all. You go cashier guy! Put that in you pipe and smoke it…again, that was another thought I had in my head and not verbalized as much as I would’ve liked to.

She said she wanted to speak to a supervisor. The lady crabbed to the supervisor about how she should be informed about the coupons. The supervisor said that isn’t fair to me or any customer to have to do that. By then you can see the smirks on the cashier and supervisor. The lady was obviously out of line and they both knew it. It’s not like I pulled out some scissors and told the cashier to hold on as I cut the coupons out. The cashier spent very little time getting my coupons through. I had a decent amount, but not a ton. It was probably no more than having to wait for one extra person to go through the line even with the supervisor getting called over. Her yapping took much more time than the coupons itself.

I’m thinking to myself that I’m sure this lady probably has nothing better to do today that she has to get through a line quickly. I know when I’m 80 I’ll have so much time that I will sweep my stoop so many times whether it needs it or not. By the way, I’m looking forward to that time… I’m guessing I’ll probably be more vocal and crotchety at that age too. I would take no guff and dish out plenty of what was on my mind. Any instance of perceived slight would be met with immediate condemnation. I will have to carry a stick around to wave around to make my point more emphatic. Or if my fingers are boney enough at that age that should be good enough. I’d jab it and wave it around like a swashbuckling pirate.

During the whole exchange, I just stood by and watched. I was very tempted to say something, but the cashier and supervisor said it perfect. I didn’t want to aggravate the lady too as my words may have been more choice. I was very proud that the store stood up for someone using coupons. I think she got the message. I mean c’mon lady. Was that worth the trouble. People use coupons to save money so that they can put food on the table for their families. Have a little more compassion and understanding and patience. We’ve all had to wait in lines while we are in a rush. That’s life. Unless you have to tinkle I think you can wait just a little longer. A good cashier will get the coupons run through quickly and without fussing. I can understand being upset when a cashier is super slow with or without coupons or doesn’t know what they are doing. That wasn’t the case. Do something productive to wile away the time like dig out the dried up snot in your nose or clip you nails or play gin rummy with the person behind you. Heck, if it made her feel better I would even clean out her nose and clip her nails.

Most people are just wowed by how much they see me save and remark about how they need to clip coupons. There are times when I know I have a huge order with tons of coupons and I tell the person being me it may take long. I think every one said that it was ok. Self scan registers are almost always open with no waiting.

If I see that same lady again I’ll crack open a beer for her so that she can chill out and see if she would be up for a game of gin rummy while the cashier rings up my order.

Today I had a complete opposite reaction from the person behind me in line at the same store. The lady had one item. Just one. The supervisor was there since the system was slowing up since I used my foodperks. She told the lady that it might take awhile. The lady said that was ok. The lady was intently watching how much I was saving. She said she wanted to see how much I saved using coupons. I saved $131.09.

The order was taking awhile to go through and the supervisor was nice enough to ring the lady up on the register next to the one I was at. Everyone was awesome. I plan to give the workers kudos on Giant Eagle’s feedback online. If I had a gold star sticker I would’ve given one to each one of them and a lollipop too. Nothing says thank you like a lollipop and gold sticker.
