Giant Eagle is really pulling out all the stops recently with new deals (transfer presciption coupon, allowing competitors coupons, new Fuelperk deals). I think it’s in response to Wal-mart advertising in newspapers about getting things cheaper at Wal-mart than Giant Eagle. In the ads Wal-mart states that you can save around 10% to 20% at Wal-mart on the groceries they list in the ads as compared to Giant Eagle. What Wal-mart doesn’t state is how coupons can save you more at Giant Eagle since they double them there.
Also, they are two different kind of stores. Wal-mart has everyday low prices while Giant Eagle has sale items mixed in with regular-priced to make up the difference. I’d like them to compare sale-only items at Giant Eagle. There are a bunch of items on sale as BOGO or around 50% off every week at Giant Eagle so if you like to shop sales then Giant Eagle is the store for you.
Some people just want to buy what they need whether it’s on sale or not. I never buy items at Giant Eagle without them being at least 50% off plus I have to have a coupon for it making the items I buy at least 70% off. If you shop at Giant Eagle and buy the non-sale items mixed in with the sale items the most you will save is about 20%. It pays to shop to sale items! I’m not brand conscious, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get what I want. Everything goes on sale every 6 weeks for the most part, so in time I will find the item I want on sale at a great price.
New Transfer Prescription Coupon! Check the Giant Eagle ad for a $1 off per gallon at GetGo gas stations when you transfer a prescription to the Giant Eagle pharmacy. I haven’t seen that coupon in a non-grand-opening ad in a looong time. It’s worth $30 when you redeem it for the 30 gallons you’re allowed at their GetGo stations.
