SOCIAL DISTANCING PRODUCTS ON SALE! Save $20 OFF Orders $100 Or More Plus Free Shipping! Use Code: I

Last year saw so many changes in the shopping world. Doubles ended at Giant Eagle. Stores got rid of their ads, some for months, if not indefinitely. Sales withered. Shopping at stores changed to online shopping. Tons of stores closed. Stores limited their hours. No more 24 hour stores. Going to the store became a challenge with Covid rampant across the world. This years Store Grades show the affects of the changes.

Most stores tried their best to smooth out the challenges with shopping and avoiding contact with people in order to avoid the spread of Covid. Hats off to the restaurant and store workers that risked their lives so that everyone could get what they needed for their families. A salute to our first-responders too that risked their lives. Things we take for granted became life and death issues.

Just like all of us, stores had to adjust to the changes and quickly. As much as everyone wants things to go back to normal we are still dealing with the affects of Covid. I look forward to that day when we can walk around without masks, shake hands, and yell and scream at sporting events. If anything, this time has made us appreciate the little things. I won’t complain about having to scoot by people to get to my seat. Going on vacation will be even a bigger joy.

Stores will also have to adjust back to normal. Will people still want to wait in line 6 foot apart…or maybe at least 4 foot apart? How much sanitizer will be available? Will carts still be cleaned? Some habits might not change back.

So after analysis of all the main stores in the area I came up with the best to worst stores to shop and graded them accordingly. There were some big changes. Giant Eagle dropped from the top of the list after they got rid of doubles. At the end of the year Walgreens changed to a MyRewards program because they knew how bad their old rewards program was, but we still don’t know what all the new program will offer. I’d rank them higher, but their ‘can’t earn rewards when you use rewards rule’ is anti-consumer. Many stores ranked lower don’t have rewards programs consistently offering deals. There is a new store at the top of the list. CVS! With the mile of coupons that print at their kiosks and the good many deals they offer every week saving at least 75% off or more, they jumped to the top.

The grades are weighted most on which have the best deals, but also takes into consideration service, staffing, rewards programs, coupon policies, and other factors that help your pocketbook. In years past I have given stores an A grade, but the reduction in freebies and tightening couponing rules have dropped grades, so none earned higher than a B+.

Without further adieu here are this year’s Store Grades:
