GAS FOR $2.55 PER GALLON
Gas prices are high, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a deal for gas. At the Twinsburg GetGo gas station they have gas as low as $2.55 per gallon with Advantage Pay. Otherwise, it’s $2.85 per gallon. Still a deal with many stations charging $3.29 per gallon. The Advantage Pay option ties your checking account to pay for the gas. They discount the gas up to 30 cents off with that option. If you have Giant Eagle FuelPerks to use, remember that you can get up to 30 gallons of gas at the discounted price when you redeem your FuelPerks. You can use Advantage and FuelPerks at the same time.
There are usually pockets of low gas prices around town Sometimes it happens when a new station opens up. Sometimes it’s near a competitive area. Parma, Avon Lake, and some inner city stations are usually lower than were you’ll find it elsewhere. However, it doesn’t make sense to drive across town to get gas at a lower price, but it it’s on your way home or just outside of where you go to get gas, it makes sense to fill up.
The reason for the low price at the Twinsburg GetGo is because a new Sheetz opened up down the street from it and they are also selling gas at $2.85 a gallon. A new Sheetz is opening on Route 306 in Mentor soon, so I expect to see the same thing happen there when they have their grand opening.

AIRLINE MERGER
Frontier Airlines is planning to buy Spirit Airlines in a $2.9 billion merger deal that would create the fifth-largest U.S. airline. The transaction value of the deal is $6.6 billion including the assumption of net debt and operating lease liabilities. Frontier will own a 51.5% stake and Spirti will own 48.5% in the combined entity.
REBATE GAMES
Recently, a couple rebates I filled out were either initially ejected and/or they didn’t rebate me the correct amount. I think most companies that put out rebates know that most people don’t fill out their rebate or contest it when there is an issue. Not me. Ihound them until I get answers.
The first rebate was for vodka and the second one was for hard seltzer…perhaps they figure anyone filling them out may be drunk, so it wouldn’t take many stumbling blocks to get them not to follow through on the rebate. The one for the vodka sent me $6, but not an additional $6 for the purchase of the second bottle – it was a limit of 2. I sent them a message and they acknowledged that they needed to send me the second check. I got it within a week!
For the hard seltzer rebate they said I didn’t fill out the member ID. Well, there wasn’t a member ID to fill out in their rebate. I filled mine on-line to avoid using stamps and to quicken the rebate process. I used the chat feature on the site and after sending them info on the rebate they said that I did qualify for the rebate and they would send me the check for $17. Problem is I bought 6 since there was a limit of 6 and I was due $102. They checked again and quickly said they would rebate me for all 6. There was no fuss and they were so quick to ok sending me my rebate. I have to wonder if they do it on purpose.
So, make sure you make copies of your rebates and send them in quickly. Don’t give them any ammunition to turn down your rebate.
JUST ONE CENT
When stores clear out merchandise for the holidays they usually mark it down to 90% off at the most. I found out otherwise with Dollar General this past week.
There is a spot in the store that has a mishmosh of clearance items. They had a bunch in a box with miscellaneous items. Some had prices on them and some didn’t. They had Glade Pine Scent air fresheners without a tag on it so I did a price check. It was a Christmassy-type item, so I figured maybe it was marked down to a buyable price.
The cashier price checked it and said they were one cent! I had to ask her the price again because I thought she told me wrong. Yep, one cent. I couldn’t even use a coupon on it, if I wanted! She said it was all the Glade air fresheners, even the twin packs. I didn’t buy them all, so you may still be able to get the deal! Some were pumpkin spice scented and those might not even sell for a penny.
