FREE TREE
If you are a property owner in Cleveland, you can have a tree planted on your tree lawn for free! All you have to do is fill out an online form. After making your request, you will receive an email with instructions to track your request. All requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Not all requests can be satisfied immediately and some may take longer than a year to fulfill.
Each location you request is surveyed in person by a Field Operations Forester to make sure there are no conflicts with the surrounding infrastructure, and that the site is a suitable one for a tree to grow and thrive. If a site is found to be appropriate for a new tree, they will add it to a list to be planted during our next available planting season. Trees are only planted during our two planting seasons: spring and fall. Requests can be made for existing empty tree lawns in front of occupied structures as well as sidewalk cut-outs typically found in commercial areas in front of businesses. You can make a tree species suggestion along with your request; however, the City Forester in charge of the planting will make the final species determination. Their primary objective is to select a tree that will grow well and provide the greatest possible level of benefits to a neighborhood. Urban Forestry does not plant on private property.

Everyone wants to live in a safe area. You might be surprised to find which states have the most violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. Of course, large states and cities have more crime in total than small cities and states just due to population, but by comparing the number of crimes per a set number of inhabitants gives a clearer picture. For instance, statistically Alaska is around 8X more more dangerous as far as the number of violent crimes per 100K inhabitants than Maine. No southern states are in the safest 10 states. Ohio was ranked 32nd, so not too bad.

PAYMENT APP WARNING
Here is a message I received from Consumer Reports about payments apps and the risks using them. I had Zelle and cancelled them when I got some scammy letters and messages after opening an account. I even got some after closing it. So be careful, especially when there are no safeguards to getting your money back from the app if you are scammed. Here is the message:
Payment apps like Venmo, Zelle, AppleCash and CashApp are hugely popular, an easy way to transfer money to friends and family. But whenever you mix cash with technology, problems can and will happen.
Consumer Reports just finished a thorough review of these apps and how they handle your money and data in the high-tech finance era. Our findings? You could be vulnerable to evolving risks if you use these apps – from losing your money through fraud or mistakes, to having your private data collected and shared.
We’re working with these companies to improve how they do business, and making real progress. But the reality is, there are few safeguards when it comes to payment apps – and lawmakers and the nation’s financial watchdog must step up and ensure you are protected when sending or receiving cash.
Sign our petition to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Congress to make sure your money and privacy are as safe as possible when using payment apps. Let’s take the risk out of “Venmo me!”

What did our team find – and what do we want regulators to protect consumers from?
No reimbursement if you’re scammed or make a mistake: None of the four apps will give you back your money if you get ripped off by a scammer, or accidentally send it to the wrong person/send the wrong amount.
No guarantee that if the app goes under, you’ll get your money back. Unlike banks that have federal insurance to protect your money if they go bust, money you hold in a cash app is not necessarily covered by FDIC insurance.
No easy way to stop your private data from being collected or shared. Not only do some of these apps capture a bunch of private info – your contacts, your web visits, profile photos and geolocation data – they don’t make it clear or easy for you to delete it, or request it not be shared.
The CFPB and Congress can put common sense rules in place right now to protect consumers from these risks. But it’s going to take all of us who use these apps to push them to do the right thing! Sign our petition, and let’s take the risk out of payment apps!

WHAT GIVES
Giant Eagle has slowly, but surely eliminated its butchers at area stores and being replace with pre-packaged meats. Some still have butchers. What gives?
Finding butchers is part of the issue. Paying them enough is another. Indeed shows them getting paid to start at $17.28 an hour.
Same goes for pharmacies. Marc’s has eliminated some. What gives?
Finding pharmacists and pharmacy technicians is part of the issue. Paying them enough is another.
Some stores have been switching to having a ton of self-checkouts. What gives?
Finding cashiers is part of the issue. Paying them enough is another.
I think you see the pattern.
A THREE YEAR CRUISE
You can now live on a cruise ship starting at $30K per year or $90K for the three year cruise. The cheapest outdoor cabin is $37K per year. The trip includes all meals, alcohol at dinner plus soft drinks, juice, tea and coffee all day, wi-fi, laundry, port fees and housekeeping. The price is very reasonable considering what you get. It has me even thinking that it might be worth the voyage. I sure hope they don’t seat you at the same table of people each day!

I think it’s great to sail the world and see every bit of it. There are a few things that would make it a bit rough. In three years time there is likely to be medical emergencies. Do you have to wait three years for your next teeth cleaning? Or maybe there are checkups in certain ports. At the next Pacific Atoll port Dr. Portaxi will be available to examine everyone for rabies, hepatitis or anything else you may have picked up.
What about funerals? You can’t easily go back home to catch a loved ones funeral. Or do you just tell all your loved ones not to croak for three years while you are out cruising the world?
How about feeding your pets? Hey neighbor, can you do me a favor for the next three years?
Do you even pay taxes if you don’t set foot in the country you are from over the three years? Any crooks might find this cruise helpful. Not easy to apprehend someone when they are like Dora the Explorer all over the world.
The biggest thing that would make this cruise a drag is if they served the same food each week. There is only so many times you can serve creamed corn before you develop a gag reflex just thinking about it.
