The Thursday Night shows are scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The Wednesday Lunch Series at the Gazebo will present, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Walt Sanders bringing back memories of Elvis, June 14; Jimmy Buffet tunes from Cheeseburger in Paradise Lite, June 28; the songs of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, as sung by Frank and Dean, July 12; Eddie & the Edsels and the rock ‘n’ roll sounds of the 1950s and early ‘60s, July 26; Disco Express, Aug. 16; and Express Way Band, playing the sounds of Motown, Aug. 30.
For Cruise Night, the village will welcome the return of The McCartney Project, playing the songs of Paul McCartney and his band, Wings, in the plaza in front of Yours Truly restaurant, 6675 Wilson Mills Road. PRICE DROPS
Inflation is still high, but I’m seeing signs of prices dropping to pre-pandemic levels. Eggs for 99 cents a dozen, mulch for $2 a bag, 80% lean ground beef for $1.99 per pound, 99 cents pints of blueberries and so on. The supply chain issues have settled down. Aside from weather-related anomolies and select shortages of certain ingredients or products due to manufacturing facility issues, prices should stabilize.
People’s shopping habits have changed and anything that is expensive isn’t get purchased as much, causing prices to go down to entice shoppers. For that same reason I expect food coupons to slowly start to come back too.
One item that isn’t being publicized any is that with the drought in California ending and that state, being the largest producer of food in the U.S., there should be a price drop on those commodoties. California produces these percentages of the U.S. supply: walnuts (99%), kiwis (97%), garlic (95%), celery (95%). The state also produces 80% of the world’s supply of almonds.
Another indicator is that all-you-can-eat specials are back even for wings and shrimp!
Gas prices will remain high until the war in Ukriane ends. Russia has an undue influence on the world supply of oil, as shown by the recent OPEC decision in which they were involved, to cut supplies. However, something odd is going on with pricing because a barrel of crude oil is the same as it was back in 2018 when prices were in the $2 range for gas while it is in the $3 range now. Green energy is a way out of our dependence on oil. Greedy oil companies may be gouging us now knowing their heyday will be ending some day in the near future. However, if they supplied us cheap oil it would slow down the need to look for alternative energy sources. Prices will drop if we enter a true recession too.
IT ALL WORKS OUT IN THE END
I was at Rite Aid the other week and the cashier tried scanning a $10 Bonus Cash with a $40 purchase reward coupon. I had it on my smartphone and no matter how hard I tried to size it up right she couldn’t get it to scan. She manually took $10 off instead. This past week I tried using a printed coupon instead. Yep, same issues.
The manager couldn’t get it to work and said he would take it off the next time I was in the store. I told him I usually don’t shop at this Rite Aid since it’s across town. He said he couldn’t do it manually. How did the cashier the week before get it done!? He was a bit gruff and even snapped at the cashier, so I wasn’t about to push his buttons about it. There are always ways around these things and I found a way to still get the $10. And no, one of the ways isn’t to eat two $5 beef jerky sticks from the shelf while I’m in the store to make up the difference.
I called the 800# for Rite Aid and talked to the customer service person and told them that the manager couldn’t get the $10 to work. As we were talking he said he noticed another problem and that he would get back to it. He added the $10 Bonus Cash to my account. He then said he was going to work on the other problem.
He said I had $9.64 on my account that expired last month. I knew I had some Bonus Cash that was getting ready to expire, but I thought I had redeemed it. Apparently not! Nonetheless, he says he would add it back to my account! He said he couldn’t do the 64 cents part of the Bonus Cash so he would round it up to $10! So I even got more than expected. What a nice dude.
The moral of the story…no need to get jerky or swipe beef jerky when the manager is jerky and scanner is murky and doesn’t worky to get perkies.
