CLEVELAND BREWERY PASSPORT
The Cleveland Brewery Passport begins again this year with 44 Greater Cleveland breweries along with a new prize format. Users will receive a prize for starting and finishing the passport, but they also can collect points on their first visit to each brewery to trade in for prizes along the way. Participants register and earn points when they buy a drink, food or merchandise at a participating brewery.
Users will earn points for their first check-in at each brewery to exchange for prizes like caps, shirts, glasses and growlers. Each new-brewery visit earns 100 points (one check-in per brewery). Some breweries are offering discounts for passport users; redeeming those deals will add 25 points. After making a purchase and checking in at all 44 breweries, users will be mailed a commemorative pin. Users who complete the passport will be entered in a drawing to win one of five grand prizes, featuring brewery gift cards and other items.

GAS SURPRISE
I went to Shell to get gas recently and was surprised at the discount I got. It was for 63 cents off per gallon! Timing was perfect because my Fuel Low warning came on and I was down to about 20 more miles worth of gas.
I got the large discount from playing their Rewards Spin Game, my regular Shell rewards discount and 23 cents off on their 23rd Anniversary on Jan 20th. You’re allowed up to 20 gallons worth with their discounts. Sign up to get 5 cents off per gallon.

By the way, the new GetGo on Route 615 in Mentor opened. To drum up business they are 30 cents cheaper than most of the gas stations in the area.
NEVERMIND
The Lake County Commissioners decided to rescind the .5% sales tax increase that was to start in April. After plenty of backlash they changed their mind. I have a feeling that next elections some voters will change their mind too.
CONSUMER REPORTS BOOBOO
Consumer Reports made a booboo. They said in a recent article in their magazine that you can buy coupons. That’s a no-no. It’s illegal to outright buy coupons. Some companies sell their coupon-clipping services as a way around the rule. Consumer Reports updated the story on their online edition.
They also said these coupon sellers are coupon fairies. That term was actually for people that leave coupons on shelves for other customers to use.

SMILE PLEASE
Sheetz has a policy that says “applicants with obvious missing, broken, or badly discolored teeth (unrelated to a disability) are not qualified for employment with Sheetz.” It also says: “In the event a current employee develops a dental problem that would limit their ability to display a pleasant, full, and complete smile, we cannot permit this situation to go on indefinitely,” it says. “In cases such as this, the employee and store management, to include the District Manager and Employee Relations as necessary, will work to come up with a mutually agreed upon resolution.” “Sheetz believes that an employee’s smile during interactions with customers and coworkers is critical to creating the sense of hospitality in our stores that we strive for.”
Sounds harsh. The reason they are doing it is because they want their front line of customer service to look pleasant. Perhaps first they need to provide enough dental insurance coverage that is affordable. Most dental coverage is insufficient and has a very high deductible, if it’s even offered at all. Fixing teeth can be expensive and if people have to choose between putting food on the table and paying bills, sometimes fixing teeth is last on the list. They employ low wage workers, so they can’t have their cake and eat it too.
What’s next…if your nails aren’t trimmed and free of dirt you are to be cast out of the store. Bushy eyebrows? Fired. Nose hairs down to your chin? Here’s your last paycheck. Bad breath? Drink some Listerine or you are outta here!
I would have to say that grooming is important and I’ve seen some folks working at stores that are disgusting. Anyone with cleanliness issues shouldn’t be serving or making food. As a manager I’ve had to have uncomfortable conversations about grooming or smell issues with employees. Some folks don’t realize how they come across or don’t care about it.
Sheetz says it’s reviewing a policy. I hope they Aim higher and Scope out a new policy and are more Sensodyne to people before things Crest with anger.
