A LITTLE STORY
I was doing some yard work the other week. First on my list was to chain-saw some wood. I thought to myself that maybe I can build a fort using the wood I cut. I would make it so big that not even Vikings or Somali pirates would want to attack me. Then I looked at the pile and realized that I probably had just enough to build a baby crib. So I started to build a baby crib. I then realized that I don’t have any babies to put in the crib. I looked around some shrubs for babies of any sort, but came up empty handed, except I found a cool looking stick that looked like a boomerang, so I threw it….it didn’t come back.
My search for babies ended fruitlessly, but I decided to make good use of the crib. I took a nap in it. It was very uncomfortable so I put some leaves and old grass clippings in it to soften it up. After some short dreams about the limitations of margarine for baking and some sleep drooling I awoke to a clamor. There had to be about fourteen or fifteen crickets making a racket. I threw a slipper at them, but they kept making noise. I tried to reason with them, but they seemed to be ignoring me. I couldn’t be too sure since their eyes were too small for me to tell if they even were paying attention to me. That was until some Vikings came by and squished them with their clubs and hammers. You never know when a bad thing turns out good…

PRODUCE TOUCHING
Do you wash off your vegetables and fruits before you eat them? Now let’s count the people who touch your produce. First the farmer and his kids may paw at your fruit and vegetables when they are checking their crops. Next are the people who may pick the produce. It sure gets hot and sweaty out in the fields. Next the shipper takes them and it goes to the seller. Lift. Touch. Open. Touch. Nobody checks to see if any of these people wash their hands before handling the produce and a lot of drinking fluids are needed during all these chores.
Next are the people who buy the produce. I don’t know about you, but I usually analyze each one I buy. I look for any rotted areas, bugs, mold, images of Potsie Weber or Nipsey Russel on them, foreign nodules, and more. Figure that maybe there may be at least a few other customers that handle the produce you buy. Then unless you bagged it already the cashier then jingle jangles it trying to find the code on it – I also like the, “what is this” question, waving a sprig of mint or rhubarb.
So figure that there is a glaze of people film on each item you buy. The wax and preservatives gum it up more too. So think of the produce you buy as a candy apple with lots of layers of goodies on it. And I’m sure there are a always a batch that gets dropped on the floor and put right back on the display. Canned produce never looked so good. And now you will always think of this story when you buy produce for the rest of your life.

A LITTLE STORY
When I get busy I sometimes neglect spending time with my cat and fish. So I plan a night with them to play cards to let them know I haven’t forgotten about them. I open up some chips and dip and diet cokes for everyone.
We usually have a good time but I always have to keep an eye on the algae eater because they always seem to cheat. The cats always seem to win the most money. I think they just know me all too well.
I think I may need to come up with a new game such as Chutes and Ladders or Hi Ho Cherry-O. Or perhaps they can help me cut coupons. But that isn’t right. We should be doing something they want to do. So it was their pick. Next Wednesday is square dancing night. Maybe the neon tetras will come up with something better next time.

If a store goes out of business, don’t get lured by low percentage off their initial sales. Most regular sales offer 30 to 50% off an item. I usually wait until the store goes at least 50% off. Otherwise it’s not that great of a sale.

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME VOTE
The nominees for induction into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. A lot of diversity with this group. Now is your chance to vote for your favorites. I’m going with Kiss, Genesis, and ABBA. The others are iffy or just need to wait longer. Yes, I’m a freak and like ABBA. I’ve seen Phil Collins as a solo act and not with Genesis. He’s good. Kiss just defines rock.
I’ve seen quite the assortment of acts from Metallica, Van Halen, Neil Diamond, Cindi Lauper, U2, Barry Manilow, Duran Duran, Whitney Houston, Def Leppard, Cher, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dione, AC/DC, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, Go-Gos, and Depeche Mode. I like bluegrass, rock, techno, urban, and 80s. I can’t stand jazz. Jazz reminds me of nervous waiting-in-line music. But who am I to be critical of music. Just look at some of the treats I saw. There are some acts I’d like to see that I haven’t yet or wish I did. They include the Beatles (snap), ABBA, and Josie and the Pussycats.
