CULT
I’m thinking about joining a cult. I need a little jolt in my life as it is getting somewhat predictable. So I looked up Cults in the phone book. To my disappointment I found none listed. I did find some new businesses to call though as I noticed where Cults would’ve been listed was Creamatories, Crime & Trauma Scene Clean-up and Cutlery. I’ll have to keep a mental note of that.
I decided to go door-to-door in what looked like an eclectic neighborhood. I asked the first person that answered if they had joined any cults. He said no. I asked if he could refer me to any as I was a bit anxious about joining one. He pointed me in the direction of a house a few doors down and said that old man Hollins may have some ideas. I knocked on their door. Mrs Hollins answered the door. Anticipating she would be able to answer my question just as well I asked her if there was any cult that she was in because I’d like to join it. To my delight she said yes! She handed me a clipboard to sign to join the cult. Apparently it was popular enough to join as she had a sign-up sheet ready to go.
I was pumped. I was thinking I could be the right-hand man or maybe the person that bakes cookies for everyone. I thought I read somewhere that cult people bake some real good cookies and I wanted to be part of that group. I did a quick little dance and jabbed my hand in the air a few times. ‘Here we go life!’ I though in my head. The possibilities were endless.
I asked her when the first meeting came to order. She said for me to show up at 8:00 sharp and she handed me a robe to wear. I told her robes made me hot and I don’t even own a sweater because they make me hot too. She gave me a look like she couldn’t see very well. She said, “No matter, you must wear the robe as it signifies your existence with the group.” Not wanting to upset leadership I told her I would oblige.
I put on the robe and hung around the neighborhood because it wasn’t worth the time for me to go home and come back. I greeted passerbys with a stern nod. For some reason being part of a group made me feel emboldened. Something I could hang my hat on.
I got invited in at 8:00 and the group of us, many of them had a smell about them that smelled like rotten parsnips, were arranged in a circle. Or maybe it was more like an oval because the room was more rectangular shaped rather than like a square. Two people rolled out Mr Hollins in a dolly. He seemed a bit stiff.
The group started chanting. I just went along with it and made some sounds that sounded like what they were chanting. Always trying to fit in, ya know. I decided to make a breakout move to show my excitement of joining the group so I started to do some breakdance moves in the middle of the group. I saw the moves on some old movie and I know it always seems to impress people when I’ve breakdanced before. It didn’t work well because the robe kept tangling me up. Boy did I feel dumb. I scampered back to my spot in the oval.
The chanting stopped so I made mention that I would like to start off in the cookie-baking squad. The group started for me so I ran like the dickens. I threw my robe on them to slow them down. Perhaps I wasn’t made to be in a cult. Hey, maybe I can open a breakdancing school and sell cookies on the side. ‘Here we go life!’ I thought in my head.
