JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AUCTION

November 12th, 2013

JUNIOR ACHEIVEMENT
Junior Achievement is holding an online auction through 11/18. There are tons of items, some very unique, being auctioned. You can see the current bid and bid higher! You can even bid for me! Yes, I’m being auctioned off. Me teaching a class that is. If you have a group of friends or organization that you’d like me to teach all the ins and outs of saving tons of money then bid for it at http://jacleveland.org/auction/jaauctiondetail.asp?Item=185. It’s under the Priceless Items…and here the bidding starts at only $50!

JA helps kids develop the skills they may not otherwise get in the classroom. The auction will help benefit the organization to buy material for the classes. I teach the Personal Econimics class for JA. The kids love it. So please help out JA and bid for some items. It’s like a donation that gives back in more ways than one!

STOUFFERS OUTLET
I stopped at the Stouffers Outlet in Solon this past week. I got a couple good deals. One was a case of mac & cheese (four 5 lb packs) for $8! Makes for a great side dish for the holidays or one gluttonous lunch. Another deal was for a case of french bread pizza (12) for $8.99. The best deals are for cases of a product. The couple I got were reduced even further than the original deal.

THANKS
I recently reached 3,000 Facebook likes. I held a contest and sparsely attended impromptu nightime parade to celebrate the occasion. Congrats to Anne M. for winning an Our Town coupon book as she was first to respond to the question that was posted on my site. Thanks to all my fans and to all the folks that liked me on Facebook! I appreciate it! You can Like The Coupon Guy on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Joe-The-Coupon-Guy/197073886914.

BILLS
It’s was that time of the year when AT&T ups its rates since my 6 month or 1 year promotional discount expired. So I called them to let them know bumping up my internet DSL rate from $21.50 to $41 was way too expensive. Sure enough, they forwarded me to another department (retention) and they told me I could sign up for 6 months at $21.50 per month or $26.50 for a full year. I opted for the 6 month deal.

It pays to complain about price increases on your regular bills! You can do the same with cable, newspapers, phone, and just about any other bill you pay on a regular basis. Outcomes vary, but keep trying as the person you get one day might not be aware of the deals they can offer. Ask for the manager or Retention department if they don’t offer you any discounts. They know it costs more to bring you back as a customer rather than give you a discount to keep you as their customer.

Don’t forget to also shop around your car and home insurance. Don’t be afraid to switch. I saved $800 a year when I switched! Make sure you are getting apples to apples and ask others who they use that they’d recommend. With all the torrential wind and rain we received this past year most home insurance rates have increased, even if you didn’t make a claim. Time to shop around!

EXTRA HOUR
Did you remember to fall back an hour? That extra hour is like gold to me. I will use that hour to complete some projects that have been on the backburner. My schedule is very busy so here are some things I will do with that extra hour.

The first thing I will do is to find the local herd of deer and scold them for eating some of what I thought were deer-resistant plants. I’ll wag my finger at them and tell them they can eat all the grass and weeds they want, but not my garden plants or crops. I put a Post-It note on all the plants they chomped on to remind them not to eat them too.

Next on my plate is to escort the spider out of our house. It’s in the bathroom and has been watching me brush my teeth daily. I don’t mind if my wife watches me brush my teeth, but a hairy spider with eyes that watch your every move…no, not so much. I haven’t seen another bug fall prey to it in its web so I have no idea what sustenance is keeping it alive. Maybe the few pieces of dust that float into its web provide some nutrition but I’m sure it will need a Centrum vitamin to make up for its lack of obtaining vital nutrients. I’ve discussed all this will the spider to no avail because there it is… I brush, it watches. He will find a new home outside now.

For some time I haven’t had time to clean one part of my back that is hard to reach. I soap around it, but I can’t reach this one spot by my shoulder blades. With the extra time I’ll squirt some body wash on the floor and I’ll spin my back in circles around it. That should get it roughly 30% cleaner.

One of my fish died in my aquarium and I meant to take it out, but now its barely a speck as the other cannibal fish in my tank apparently made a meal out of it. I finally get around to removing what remnants are left of its carcass. What do these fish think while they watched one of their own croak? Did something click all of sudden where they were just fish talking one minute with them and as soon as they croak they eat them like a child would a Chucky Cheese pizza. To each their own I say. I won’t judge them for eating their fishmates. I just won’t entertain taking a swim in the aquarium.

I’ve been missing filling in my diary too. I’ll have to write about what I had for breakfast, the time I pulled over to the side of the road because I heard a cop siren when it was really just part of a song, and the day that a band of traveling mimes came to the house to perform in my living room. Weird things just happen to me. Oh, and I just found out that my bucket of gold bullion was missing. I’ll put that in my diary too.

Being busy I neglected to cut my pinky fingernail. It’s about three inches longer than any other nail I have. I’ll have to get on that with the extra time I have.

Another thing I want to do is get a leg up on writing my Christmas present list to Santa. I was late writing it last year and wowee, it showed in what he left me underneath the Christmas tree. I think my list must have gotten mixed up with some bad kid from Costa Rica or something. Or maybe I just need to be much gooder as I know he’s watching my every move which is very creepy now that I think about it.

I’m so pumped that I’ll be able to get all these things done in the extra hour I have. Thank you daylight savings time. You rock. However, I just slept an two extra hours and now I will have to wait until next year’s Daylight savings extra hour to catch up on everything I needed to do.
