Before…
HOGGYS
On their menu they have a meal for $24.95 that if you eat the whole thing you either get a t-shirt or a $15 gift certificate for Hoggy’s. I laughed when I read it because I can be a little piggy. One time Tony Roma’s had all-you-can-eat ribs for $15.99 and I ate one full slab and 8 more half slabs. I was inspired because I love ribs and deals. The Hoggy’s meal consisted of a tasty half a chicken (included the leg and wing), a pulled pork sandwich, a half slab of ribs, two sides ( I got asparagas and beans), and cornbread. My belly hurt, but I have me self a $15 gift certificate for Hoggy’s now.
I used a BOGO coupon from the Our Town coupon book. I got $18 off! Click here to order the book: http://www.joethecouponguy.com/merchandise/index.htm

I sprinkle a little sugar on my grapefruit since it can be a little tart. I use the merry-go-round method to eat it. Shovel some out with a spoon, move onto the next segment, and so on until I finish it with sweeping motions around the whole inside to get any straggler pieces and juice. I then cough up the seeds. And then finally, I use the remains of the grapefruit husk to wear on my head as a little cap.

ARIZONA LESSONS
What a sad day it was to see the people murdered in the recent tragedy in Arizona. A lot remains to be understood about the shooter, but it looks like a mentally unstable person killed them because he had a beef with the Congresswoman. And that beef was really unfounded. There’s no reasoning with mentally unstable people. He needed help. And if he voluntarily sought mental help in Arizona, the way their law is there he would still have been able to purchase a gun!
A lot has been said about what caused him to go over the edge. Did he, in his unstable mind, absorb all the hatred that was spewed about her and the government and use it to fuel his reasoning to kill her and the other innocent people? We don’t know that right now. However, the way the U.S. is spewing hate now is unlike any other time in history. And it’s no surprise it happened in Arizona where it is at a fever pitch. Regardless of what happened in Arizona, I do think that all the rancor has taken us back a few steps.
Let me take a step back first and address the political rancor. Remember when there were tons of people that thought wrestling like WWW was real. Remember how people would get animated about their favorite wrestler like Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper? Remember how there were all sorts of characters in wrestling that people associated with because they reminded them of who they were or what they wanted to be or that they just plain liked because of their personality. It has since been well-founded that wrestling is all made for show where the wrestlers plot out all their moves, although some still think it’s real. Same goes for politics.
There are a lot of animated personalities on radio and TV that people feel mirror their beliefs. Just like wrestlers they are all doing it for money. They pump up their listeners and viewers by spewing hate about the other side, just like wrestlers. They make you believe that the other side is bad, just like wrestlers. They use macho sayings to rile up their side. Just like wrestling audiences, people at political forums and political talk shows disrespectfully yell out loud and shout over each other. Think about it. Who are the villains on each side. It’s Pelosi vs. Palin. Reid against Rush. All they need is a costume and it will be full-on wrestling.
Is part of the political show all fake, just like wrestlers? Partly. They are passionate about their beliefs and it shows and that’s ok. But it’s when their passion turns into rancor that turns into lies and hate that is causing long-term issues. Some people have such deep-seeded ill-will they aren’t even accepting the facts about the other side. All that has made them incite others to hate the other side. Facts aren’t even facts anymore!
There are plenty of sites that check the facts and show that the other side is lying. The lying just gets people riled up. And I’m not talking opinion or fear-mongering – it’s facts. Politifact, an independent political fact-checking service, was established because of how often it was happening. After all, increased viewership means more money. And the way you do it is by showing crazy things the other side is doing whether it’s true or not….like Obama spending 2 billion to go to India (which is false). Yet people still believe it. They even believe he was born out of the U.S. even though, somehow with great forethought, he had a couple Hawaiian newspapers put a birth announcement in the paper when he was born. It gives people wild reactions about the other side to the point people no longer seek out the truth even when it is shown and told to them. It’s the liberal media or right-wing wackos they say. Some people don’t even question the source and believe the lies wholeheartedly because it matched their views.
Many people bought more guns and ammo thinking Obama was going to take them away too. Did he? No. Why did people believe in such a thing? It’s mostly because some in the media suggested it could happen, people that didn’t want him elected of course. People react to fear. I could say that I read that sparrows are the new miracle chicken meat because they have a secret hidden vitamin found in them that makes people younger. Because I suggested it people will eat them like M&Ms.
Have you ever gotten riled up listening to someone on radio or TV? What does that say? What if the person listening is mentally unstable? With budgets being cut there will and have been cuts to mental healthcare. That very well could lead to more of the situations like the one in Arizona.
If you were introduced to two people you don’t know, but after 365 days of listening to how bad one of them is and the other isn’t, how are you going to feel towards them? If you don’t listen to the other side you won’t have a balanced perspective.
We all know Fox’s ‘fair and balanced’ tagline. But I’ve heard plenty of people say Fox is fair and balanced, yet they have no liberals on their own primetime shows. Even Hannity doesn’t have a liberal “Colmes” anymore. How is that “fair and balanced”? A lot of those monikers are just ways to fool the public too. You say something long enough people start to believe it. Remember how Bush said he was a uniter, yet we are now seeing the left and right at odds more than we’ve ever seen? Just another ploy to wordsmith people. And just like listening to just MSNBC all day will also gett you to slant to the left.
Here’s something to think about. Does a relationship with a spouse, friend, or family work when a take-it-or-leave-it approach is taken? Of course not. Eventually resentment follows and worse from there. Compromise and understanding work the best and not ‘my way or the highway’. But if people vote in super-majorities in Congress and for the Presidency then that says something and they have every right to run their agenda.
And let me take another approach to it too. Has all this back and forth animated fingerpointing actually made things better? Polls show Congress has horrible approval ratings for years and years, especially as the rancor has gotten worse. When people stubbornly stick by their views they don’t take the time to listen to the other side. They shut them out. So nothing gets done.
It’s like a spoiled child that wants it’s way no matter what. Eventually they learn they can’t have everything and have to compromise or accept some things for the greater good. Some people are still acting like spoiled children because they can’t accept when their side doesn’t win an election. They’ve been so led to believe how bad the other side is that they can’t even accept the other side winning and wanting them to do great.
Would you want someone to pray for you to fail or for you to do your best? After all, we are all learning lessons throughout life even when we think we are totally right.
Had the shooter used a standard clip of 10 rounds instead of the 33 that the assault law allowed would it have saved lives? Someone made a good point that the reason they were able to stop the shooter was because he was taking time to switch clips. That gave people enough to time jump on him. Had he been using a standard clip of 10 that would’ve given people more opportunities to stop him.
It was disgusting the number of times politicians on both sides were using gun “imagery” to look tough to try to beat the opponent. The crosshairs target Palin used on the map of Congress people was wrong. Her people ridiculously said that they were now ’surveyors’ marks. C’mon, we’re not that stupid. Hard to say if the killer saw it and it warped his mind, but nonetheless it’s wrong to used veiled threats on someone like that. Even her opponent used ‘come shoot AK47s’ with him in his political literature after a reference about Gabby Giffords. We’ve all heard Rush’s ‘lock and load’ rantings too. All that imagery very easily could warp a mentally unstable person. Most people realize that it’s all bluster, but not everyone. Even advertisers use subliminal advertising to get people to buy their product and they do it because it works!
With politics I take a “let me check the facts first” approach. Unfortunately, too many people don’t question their own party or affiliations. It’s the other side that needs to get it right. Really? When you point your finger at someone there are four pointing back at you. Be humble enough to question your own beliefs before you question others. The Tea Party was partly created because people questioned their own party when they saw their party’s words didn’t match their actions, especially when it came to fiscal responsibility. They also find solitude in the Constitution as if to go back to their roots to start from scratch again to get it right.
I think it’s healthy for people to question policies and they have the right to say what they want even when I disagree with their position. Hearing the other side’s views leads to a better understanding of their thoughts. After all, have you ever gotten upset with someone because of something they did only to find out you got it wrong? I have. I stopped doing that after embarrassing myself enough times. Instead, now I react after I take time to get all the facts.
We need more civility and not rancor. If it’s a take it or leave it attitude these next few years, you’ll see nothing getting done. We will regress as a society. The shootings in Arizona is only a start if we don’t turn this around. Turn off the TV and radio and make up your own minds. Don’t have people that lie and are paid handsomely to do it for a living do it for you. If anything, check the facts – on your party – through independent sources. If you never have or even question the fact-checkers truth, then it shows how far they got ya. We all want an efficient government that works the will of the people. Perhaps some might need a wrestler slamming a folding chair over their head to get them back on track. Please wake up America. We are only wrestling with ourselves here.
QUIZ ANSWER
A. Reno! And Cleveland is further west than Orlando and Rome is further north than Cleveland! Yes, it’s true. But as I mentioned above, sometimes some things that look obviously right may not be. You can check for yourself at http://www.travelmath.com/city.
