WALK-A-THON
Independence Inc., a service provider to individuals with Developmental Disabilities, invites Portage county and surrounding communities to sign up for their annual “Walk a Mile in their Shoes” Walkathon event on Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Kent State Student Recreation Center. Participants can obtain registration forms at http://www.teamiop.org.
The “Walk a Mile in their Shoes” Walkathon, will benefit a number of local Agencies that provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Registration for the event is $25.00. All participants will receive an event T shirt and admission to the KSU Recreation Center for the day. Amenities and activities include basketball courts, racquet ball courts, pool, face painting, cornhole and ping pong. Sponsorship booths are available for $25.00 and will be located in the main lobby of the KSU student recreation center.
The walkathon starts at 9:00 AM and will conclude at 12:00PM; participant and sponsor registration begins at 8:30AM. Walkers may choose their own pace and the number of laps they wish to complete.
Prizes will be awarded for and individual and team that raises the most pledges.

Kmart is closing their stores in Bainbridge and Medina on Sunday, May 6th. I was there Saturday and most of the deals were 50% and less with clothes at 80% off. 99 CENT COUPONS
This past week in the Red Plum coupon inserts that were mailed to most homes there was a coupon for 99 cents off Indiana Bacon. The coupon will double at stores that double coupons of 99 cents and less like Giant Eagle, Buehlers, Dave’s Supermarket, and K-Mart (at times). They must have a couponer running the company as they know a 99 cent coupon will double at a lot of stores. That’s a hefty $1.98 off on a food item with a coupon. And their bacon is great. I like their thick cut bacon.
The last 99 cent coupon I found before this one was for Dulcolax. Umm, I prefer the 99 cent bacon one much better.
Also Included in the insert was also a coupon for a free Good ‘n Natural bar.
The Red Plum inserts can be found in some newspapers in the area including the Akron Beacon Journal. The Red Plum inserts were taken out of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and others across the country because they said they didn’t reach a certain percentage of market share that they determined.
ELUSIVE FRENCH FRIES
I had someone leave me a message the other week about a deal that I mentioned on the radio that they said I needed to get right with the free fry deal. She mentioned something about Subway and also diabetes and kids too. I’m thinking to myself did I say Subway on the air when I meant to say Penn Station? I’m not perfect so I’m sure there will be times I get a deal wrong. I’m sure I have typos too. Either way, it is inadvertent and I never want to mislead anyone on a deal.
Back to the fries. I know Subway doesn’t even have fries. So I checked the podcast from the show and sure enough I did say Penn Station. Here this lady thought I said Subway and apparently she went to a few of them looking for free fries. I even called Penn Station at the chance that she meant Penn Station and said Subway (notice how I still second-guessed myself). Penn Station confirmed that they did give out free fries. My site even had the deal posted right. And like with all deals it is at PARTICIPATING locations. So make you call before you decide to drive a distance to get the deal.
I feel bad the lady went driving around, but then again, all she had to do was check my web-site or the podcast to make sure SHE got it right before she complained. As they say, when you point the finger at someone there are a few others pointing back at yourself.
One thing that irks me is when people don’t listen. They hear what they want to hear. Another is when they are so self-righteous and closed-minded that they don’t think they can ever be wrong. People make mistakes. It’s human nature. We are always learning from them, some more than others. Being stubborn to the point that a person thinks they are right all the time will just get them in trouble.
All that being said, Dollar stores are a great place to find deals on Q-Tips. CVS has had hearing aid battery deals too.
FOOTBALL DRAFT
I like value. I like football too. I enjoy watching the football draft. Watching the Cleveland Browns draft drove me nuts. I hated seeing them have to give up picks to move up one spot knowing that maybe they didn’t have to. They wanted Richardson so they did everything to draft him. The Browns did a good job of freaking people out making them think they would draft Tannehill. Blackmun was ok, but he wasn’t as elite as Richardson.
Each player has a ranking and sometimes teams reach and draft a player way earlier than anticipated. The Browns seem to like to do that so that they get the player they want. However, some of the good teams are patient and wait for these players to drop in their laps as Pittsburgh and Baltimore seem to do. The Browns aren’t patient. Why they drafted Hughes in round 3 is a mystery too as most draftniks said he may not even get drafted. Go for the need and get the best receiver on the board. Then again, they may see something in them that others didn’t and maybe they were afraid others would beat them to the punch and draft him before they did. They did get some value in the late round picks getting guys that got overlooked and were expected to get drafted earlier. That made me feel better. The Browns just want to give me rickets or whatever you get from being driven nuts.

There are times of the year I play certain lucky numbers in the lottery. This past month I played five different 3 digit numbers and one different 4 digit number. I missed winning the 3 digit number 21 times by just one number! The 4 digit I missed 8 times by just one number! I did win the 3 digit number once. That lousy feeling of losing that many times by that close surely didn’t superceded winning that once. I’m thinking that must be some type of record losing that close so many times.
The casino in Cleveland opens up in less than two weeks. Perhaps I should just go there for the free drinks.
WALMART
Wal-mart again has lost a suit for not paying some workers for overtime. For the largest company in the world you’d think they wouldn’t have to cheap out on paying their workers. Part of the reason I rarely shop there is because of how they have shown a pattern of taking advantage of their workers.

One good thing Walmart does for couponers is that they give overage on coupons. For instance, if you have a $3 coupon and the item costs $2.50 you get a .50 credit or “overage”. I’ve gotten $4.62 back from them with these type of coupons and I didn’t pay them a penny.
Did you see the ad in Sunday’s, 5/6/12 PD comparing their prices to Giant Eagle? It’s misleading. Wal-mart doesn’t have items that go on sale. Giant Eagle does. If you buy just the sale items you will almost always find a better deal at Giant Eagle. Plus Giant Eagle doubles coupons of 99 cents and less. Some stores like Wal-mart and Marc’s have everyday low prices but not weekly sales where they lower the price of the item that week. They should compare Giant Eagle’s best sale items with Wal-mart. I wonder if Giant Eagle will follow-up with their comparison and include their Fuelperks and Foodperks deals too.
